THE 250 COMANCHE IS THE ORIGINAL GO FAST FOR CHEAP AIRPLANE !!
155 TO 160 KNOTS. IN A TRUE 4 PLACE AIRPLANE, WITH BAGGAGE SPACE, AND ENOUGH USEFUL LOAD TO CARRY THEM !!
PARTS ARE READILY AVAILABLE AND INEXPENSIVE, SO THEY ARE EASY TO MAINTAIN.
AND THEY ARE A PLEASANT, PREDICTABLE CROSS COUNTRY AIRPLANE, WITH GOOD MANNERS IN TURBULENCE.
BUT, WHEN YOU LAND, IT IS BETTER TO PUT THE LANDING GEAR DOWN !!!
THIS AIRPLANE LANDED NORMALLY AT HIS HOME STRIP, BUT THE PILOT FORGOT TO LOWER THE ELECTRIC GEAR.
SO THERE IS DAMAGE TO THE BELLY.
YOU CAN SEE THE SCRAPES ON THE BELLY SKINS, AFT OF THE NOSE GEAR WELL AND FORWARD OF THE TAILCONE.
LUCKILY, THE PEOPLE SENT OUT TO LIFT THE AIRPLANE BACK UP ONTO ITS GEAR DID A GREAT JOB
WHEN THEY GOT IT LIFTED, THE GEAR CAME DOWN FINE, AND ALL 3 LANDING GEAR ARE UNDAMAGED, INCLUDING THE DOUBLE PUCK DISC BRAKE CALIPERS
THERE DOES NOT SEEM TO BE ANY DAMAGE TO THIS AIRFRAME EXCEPT THE SCRAPING FROM THE AFT EDGE OF THE NOSE GEAR WELL TO ABOUT THE MID-POINT OF THE BELLY.
THERE IS AN ADF ANTENNA ON THE REAR CABIN BELLY, AND THIS GOT SCRAPED, BUT IT ACTED AS A SKID, SO THE BELLY DAMAGE ITSELF IS MUCH LIGHTER, AND IN A SMALLER AREA, THAN YOU WOULD EXPECT. THE BELLY STROBE ON THE MID AFT BELLY HAS A BROKEN CAP.
THAT"S IT !!
NO WING DAMAGE OR SCRAPING !!
THE CONTROL SURFACES AND TIPS LOOK GOOD!!
NO TAIL DAMAGE, OR TAIL FEATHER DAMAGE !!
THE UPPER CABIN AND FUSELAGE IS NOT HAILED ON, OR DENTED, OR TWEAKED. THE DOOR SHUTS GREAT.
NOW EVEN THOUGH THE AIRFRAME HAS VERY LITTLE DAMAGE FROM THIS INCIDENT IS NOT TO SAY IT LOOKS GREAT.
IF THE PAINT ISN"T ORIGINAL, IT WAS REDONE A LONG TIME AGO IN AN ORIGINAL SCHEME, WITH RED, MAROON AND "LAS VEGAS GOLD" STRIPES, AND THE PAINT IS REALLY BEEN POLISHED AWAY OVER TIME. NOTICE THAT THE SURFACES AND WINGS ARE NOT ALL PATCHED UP AS SOMETIMES HAPPENS, IT JUST LOOKS LIKE TIME HAS TAKEN ITS TOLL ON THE PAINT.
THE OWNER TO GOOD CARE OF THE AIRPLANE MECHANICALLY, AS EVIDENCED BY THE MAINTENANCE RECORDED IN THE LOGS. (WE HAVE ALL LOGS SINCE NEW, 5/1959). THE SAME MECHANIC HAS BEEN DOING MAINTENANCE AND SIGNING OFF ANNUALS FOR 16 YEARS, AND SHOWS GOOD AD COMPLIANCE.
OBVIOUSLY, THE OWNER CARED, IF NOT ABOUT APPEARANCES THAN AT LEAST ABOUT THE ENGINE, AS THE ENGINE WAS OVERHAULED BY ONE OF THE BEST (AND MOST EXPENSIVE) ENGINE SHOPS IN THE COUNTRY, VICTOR !!
NOT THE DISTINCTIVE BLACK PAINT, A VICTOR SIGNATURE.
THIS ENGINE HAD A TOTAL REBUILD 9/20/2005 !!
LESS THAN 500 HOURS SINCE THAT EXCELLENT MAJOR OVERHAUL !!
