1962 PIPER CHEROKEE 150, 3920TTAF, 1178 SMOH, NO PROP STRIKE OR ACCIDENT DAMAGE, EASY PROJECT, CHEAP !!THE CHEROKEE LINE STARTED IN LATE 1961, WITH 1 AIRFRAME, AND 3 ENGINE CHOICES: 150 H.P., 160 H.P., AND 180 H.P..ALL THREE MODELS, CALLED BY THEIR HORSEPOWER, WERE EXACTLY THE SAME AIRFRAME, WITH THE SAME WINGS, CONTROL SURFACES, LANDING GEAR, COWLING, INTERIOR, ETC.THIS MODEL, THE 150, IS ALL BUT FORGOTTEN, BECAUSE EVEN THOUGH THEY MADE THIS MODEL UNTIL 1967, THE PRODUCTION NUMBERS DROPPED AFTER 1964, WHEN PIPER INTRODUCED A “LESSER” 150 H.P. ENGINED AIRPLANE AS A “TRAINER ONLY”, AND SLOTTED IT LOWER ON THE TOTEM POLE BY CALLING IT THE 140 !!(NO IT DID NOT PRODUCE 140 H.P., THIS IS ONLY A MARKETING GIMMICK !SO THE 150, LIKE THIS AIRPLANE, CAME OUT OF THE FACTORY AS A 4 SEAT FAMILY/CROSS-COUNTRY AIRPLANE, JUST LIKE THE OTHERWISE IDENTICAL 180 !YOU CAN TELL A 150 FROM A 140 BY A FEW SMALL ITEMS, BUT THE BIG ONE, THAT MATTERS MOST, IS THAT THE 150 HAS A REAL BAGGAGE DOOR, WHICH LEADS TO A REAL BAGGAGE COMPARTMENT, JUST LIKE THE 180 HAS ALWAYS HAD.THE 140 HAS NO STORAGE SPACE IN BACK, AND NO OUTSIDE DOOR, SO YOU NEVER REALLY WANT TO PACK ANYTHING IN THAT AIRPLANE.THIS 150 HAS A VERY LOW TOTAL TIME OF 3,920.THE MOSTLY TRAINER 140’S PRETTY MUCH ALL HAVE MORE THAN THIS, SOME DOUBLE OR MORE !!THE 0-320E2A DYNAFOCAL MOUNT 150 HORSEPOWER ENGINE HAS 1178 HOURS SINCE MAJOR IN 2002, WITH MODERN CERMINIL CYLINDER ASSEMBLIES, NOT THE ORIGINAL STEEL CYLINDERS, AND THE NEW STYLE OIL PUMP GEARS.THE LAST ANNUAL WAS PERFORMED 7/14/2017 (STILL IN CALENDAR ANNUAL), AND THE COMPRESSIONS WERE GOOD AT 72,75,77 AND 75 OVER 80.THIS AIRPLANE DID NOT CRASH.IT DOESN’T HAVE HAIL DAMAGE.THERE WAS NO PROP STRIKE OR SUDDEN STOPPAGE.THERE HAS BEEN NO FAA INCIDENT OR ACCIDENT REPORT FILED.THE FORMER OWNER REPORTED THAT HE HAD A HARD LANDING AND BROUGHT THE AIRPLANE TO A MECHANIC.AND THAT’S WERE THINGS GET FUZZYTHE REPORT FROM THE INSURANCE COMPANY SAYS THAT THE WING SPAR IS SUSPECT.THE LANDING GEAR LEG ON THE LEFT WING HAS BEEN REMOVED FOR INSPECTION.AND HERE IS WHERE THINGS GET FUZZYTHE WING SPAR IS NOT DAMAGED !!AS THE WORLD’S LARGEST SUPPLIER OF USED CHEROKEE PARTS, WE KNOW THIS STUFF !!I HAD MY WING GUY INSPECT IT, HE FOUND NO DAMAGE.I LET THE SHOP FORMAN INSPECT IT, HE FOUND NO DAMAGE.I INSPECTED IT, LOOKING FOR THE TELL-TALE SIGNS OF A HARD LANDING (WRINKLES NEAR THE EDGES OF THE GEAR TUBE OPENING. NONE.CRACKS FROM THE EDGES OF THE OPENING RADIATING OUTBOARD. NONE.DEFORMATION ON THE TOP SKIN, WHERE THE NITROGEN FILLER PORT IS. NONE.WE EVEN CHECKED THE SKIN ALL ALONG THE SPAR, TOP AND BOTTOM, FOR POPPED RIVITS. NONE.SO I ASKED MY RECOVERY DRIVER WHAT HE HAD HEARD ABOUT THE AIRPLANE, WHEN HE PICKED IT UP. IT SEEMS THAT THE INSURANCE ADJUSTER DID NOT INSPECT THE AIRPLANE PERSONALLY, NOR DID HE SEND ANYONE TO INSPECT IT.SO WHATEVER THE FORMER OWNER, OR THE MECHANIC SAID WAS TAKEN AS GOSPEL. I BELIEVE THAT THERE IS NO DAMAGE TO THE SPAR, ON EITHER WING, AS THERE IS NO SIGN OF DEFORMATION OR DENTING ON EITHER WING, AND THE GREEN UPPER TUBE, WHICH LOOKS GOOD, DID NOT APPEAR TO HAVE CAUSED ANY DAMAGE TO THE LEFT WING.SO THE INSURANCE COMPANY TAKES SOMEBODY’S WORD THAT THERE IS DAMAGE, SENDS A COMPANY TO DISASSEMBLE THE AIRPLANE, AND OFFERS IT FOR SALE. THE PHOTOS DIDN’T SHOW ANY WING DAMAGE, SO I ASKED A FRIEND IN THE AREA TO GO TAKE A LOOK AT THE AIRPLANE, AND THE WINGS, BEFORE I BOUGHT IT. HE TOO FOUND NO DAMAGE TO THE WINGS !!SO I AM SELLING THIS AIRPLANE AS A REASSEMBLE PROJECT, WITH A TWO PART GUARENTEE:IF YOU BUY THE AIRPLANE, AND WHEN YOU COME TO PICK IT UP (IT’S LOCATED AT OUR MAIN LOCATION AT THE CRYSTAL AIRPORT (KMIC), JUST NORTH OF MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA), YOU FIND DAMAGE TO THE WING SPAR THAT WE DIDN’T, I WILL REFUND YOUR MONEY, OR OFFER YOU A REPLACEMENT UNDAMAGED WING FROM OUR STOCK AT NO CHARGE. I AM NOT MAKING THIS OFFER LIGHTLY. WE HAVE ALL DETERMINED THESE WINGS TO BE OK, BUT WE WANT YOU TO FEEL SECURE THAT YOU WILL AGREE WITH US !!THE ONLY DAMAGE TO THIS ENTIRE AIRPLANE SEEMS TO BE FROM THE DISASSEMBLY OR TRANSPORT OF THE DISASSEMBLED AIRPLANE.THE RIGHT WING HAS A SCRAPE AND SCRATCH ON THE UPPER SURFACE WHERE SOMETHING RUBBED AGAINST IT. NO SKIN WILL NEED REPLACEMENT, JUST NORMAL PAINT PREP AND REPAINT THE SMALL AFFECTED AREA. WE HAVE INCLUDED A PHOTO OF THIS WHOLE AREA.THE LEFT AILERON SKIN IS DENTED UPWARD AT THE TRAILING EDGE, FROM SOMEONE LIFTING THE WING BY THAT SKIN. THE AILERON SPAR AND WEIGHT ARE NOT AFFECTED. THE RUDDER HAS A SIMILAR “WOW” IN THE TRAILING EDGE, ALSO FROM OVER-ENTHUSIASTIC PUSHING, NOT FROM AN “ACCIDENT”.AS YOU CAN SEE IN THE PHOTOS, THIS AIRPLANE HAS BEEN REPAINTED IN A MODERN “SWISH” PAINT SCHEME, IN A MODERN MEDIUM BLUE AND DOVE GREY. THE OVERALL CONDITION OF THE PAINT IS VERY GOOD.INSIDE, THE FRONT SEATS AND SIDE PANELS HAVE ALSO BEEN UPDATED, TO A BRIGHT WHITE WITH BRITE BLUE ACCENTS, AND THE CONDITION IS GOOD.UNFORTUNATELY, THE BACK SEAT IS MISSING !!I DON’T KNOW WHY IT ISN’T INCLUDED, MAYBE IT WAS OUT BEING REUPHOLSTERED AND WAS NEVER RETURNED, OR ?????? UNFORTUNATLY IT IS NOT INCLUDED.FORTUNATELY, WE HAVE A REPLACEMENT BACK SEAT, WHICH WE WILL INCLUDE WITH THIS AIRPLANE FROM OUR USED STOCK.
