1965 PIPER CHEROKEE 140, 4 PLACE, GREAT TIME BUILDER OR RUN-AROUND AIRPLANE, SUPER LOW 2,858 TOTAL TIME AIRFRAME, ONLY 699 SMOH.THE 140 IS THE BASIC CHEROKEE, INTENDED FOR FLIGHT TRAINING, PERSONAL FLYING, AND GREAT FOR BUILDING TIME INEXPENSIVELY.PIPER ACTUALLY MADE A 150 AND A 160 FOR 2 YEARS BEFORE THE 140 CAME OUT, BUT THEY ARE MOSTLY FORGOTTEN.THE 140 WAS MEANT TO SLOT BELOW THE "150" IN THE PRODUCT LINE, SO IT WAS GIVEN AM IDENTIFICATION NUMBER SLIGHTLY LESS THAN THE 150, EVEN THOUGH THE 140 HAS THE SAME 150 H.P. LYCOMING 0-320 ENGINE !!FIRST PRODUCED AS A 2 SEATER, TO CHALLENGE THE CESSNA 150, IT WASN"T LONG BEFORE PIPER REALIZED THAT THEY COULD OFFER THIS AIRPLANE AS A 2+2. WITH EASILY REMOVABLE OR FOLD-FLAT IN PLACE REAR SEATS. AS THE 140 HAS THE SAME ENGINE, PROPELLOR, AIRFRAME, WINGS AND FLAPS AS THE "FAMILY HAULER" 150 AND 160, IT HAS THE SAME OR HIGHER USEFUL LOAD THAN THOSE 4 SEATERS, SO THE REAR SEATS CAN ACTUALLY BE USED !!ONE OF PIPERS MOST CONVIENIENT UPGRADES IN THE LATER 1960"S AND 1970"S FOR THESE AIRPLANES WAS TOE-BRAKES !!IT"S NOT THAT THE HAND BRAKE, OR "JOHNSON BAR" DOESNT WORK WELL, IT DOES, BUT TOE-BRAKES ALLOW FOR DIFFERENTIAL BRAKING, ALLOWING YOU TO SLOW 1 WHEEL MORE AS AN AID TO STEERING, AND THIS MAKES TAXI AND LANDING BOTH EASIER.TOE BRAKES WERE NOT OFFERED IN THE 140 IN 1965, BUT THIS AIRPLANE HAS BEEN RETRO-FITTED, SO THAT"S RARE AND NICE.THIS AIRPLANE SUFFERED A LITTLE MISHAP ON LANDING. THE FACT THAT THE RUNWAY WAS WET MAY HAVE HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH IT.IT WENT OFF THE SIDE OF THE RUNWAY AFTER TOUCHDOWN, AND AS THE RIGHT WING GOT OVER TOO FAR, IT HIT A RUNWAY LIGHT, WHICH DENTED THE LEADING EDGE OF THE LEFT WING, AND SCRAPED THE UNDERSIDE SKIN BEHIND THAT LEADING EDGE.THE NEXT STOP WAS THE DRAINAGE SWALE ON THE SIDE OF THE RUNWAY, WHERE THE RIGHT TIP AT THE LEADING EDGE AND UNDERSIDE HIT THE MUD, AND THE NOSEGEAR BENT SIDEWAYS AT THE LOWER CHROME TUBE AND THE FORK.I BET THAT WAS A THRILLING RIDE !!SO THE DAMAGE IS AS YOU CAN SEE IN MY PHOTOS.IN ADDITION TO THE INBOARD DENT AND SCRAPE, THE RIGHT WING IS DAMAGED OUTBOARD ON THE LOWER OUTERMOST FORWARD SKIN, AND THE TIP RIB IS PROBABLY DENTED OR CRACKED.THE FIBERGLASS TIP ITSELF MAY BE FINE ONCE THE SKIN AND RIB ARE REPLACED, OR IT IS EASILY REPAIRABLE.THE NOSE FORK IS BENT, AS IS THE CHROME TUBE, BUT THE UPPER TUBE SEEMS FINE, THE SHIMMEY DAMPNER LOOKS GOOD, AND EVEN THE WHEEL LOOKS UNDAMAGED.I LOOKED THE TUBULAR ENGINE MOUNT OVER VERY WELL (THIS MOUNT ALSO SUPPORTS THE NOSE GEAR). AND IT IS NOT BENT.AS THE NOSEGEAR DOES NOT ATTACH TO THE FIREWALL AS IN SOME CESSNA AIRPLANES, THE FIREWALL IS ALSO NOT DAMAGED ON THIS AIRPLANE.THE LOWER COWL GOT MUD SPRAYED ONTO IT, AS DID THE BELLY, BUT THE SKINS ARE NOT SCRAPED OR DAMAGED, JUST MUDDY.THE RIGHT MAIN GEAR IS UNDAMAGED, AS ARE THE RIGHT FLAP AND AILERON.THE LEFT WING WAS NOT INVOLVED IN THIS INCIDENT AT ALL, AND IS UNDAMAGED (BUT HAS HAD SOME REPAIR IN THE PAST, BASED ON A SPOT THAT HAS TOUCH UP PAINT ON IT)OVERALL THE PAINT IS QUITE PASSABLEINSIDE, THE 4 SEATS ARE UPHOLTERED IN MATCHING CLOTH, AND ARE IN QUITE GOOD SHAPE.THE DASH IS 100%COMPLETE, WITH ALL FLIGHT AND ENGINE INSTRUMENTATION.THE KING KX-170B 720 CHANNEL NAV-COM IS INCLUDED, AS IS THE VOR INDICATORTHE KING KT-76 TRANSPONDER IS WIRED TO A MODE "C" ENCODER.THE AIRPLANE HAS A BUILT IN SPA-400 INTERCOM SYSTEMIT IS ALSO EQUIPPED WITH A WHELEN TAIL STROBE, REPLACING THE OLD BEACONAS YOU CAN SEE, WHEN THE NOSE GOT BENT IN THE DITCH, SO DID THE PROP, SO THAT REQUIRES AN INSPECTION BEFORE IT CAN BE ANNUALLED AGAIN.SPEAKING OF ANNUALS, THE ANNUAL IS CURRENT ON THIS AIRPLANE, AND DOES NOT EXPIRE UNTIL 7/1/2018.THERE IS NO PYSICAL DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE, OR SPINNER, OR EXHAUST SYSTEMTHIS AIRPLANE INCLUDES CONSECUTIVE AND COMPLETE AIRFRAME AND ENGINE LOGBOOKS BACK TO BRAND NEW IN 1965 !!ADDITIONAL PAPERWORK INCLUDES AD COMPLIANCE SHEETS, WEIGHT AND BALANCE, AND POH.THE AIRPLANE IS SOLD WITH THE FAA BILL OF SALE AND THE ACTUAL CERTIFICATE OF AIRWORTHINESS.LOCATED AT A TIE-DOWN AT THE PRINCETON, N.J.
