POLISHED AIRFRAME WITH BLUE COLORED ACCENTS AND WING LEADING EDGES, LIKE THEY USED TO DO IN THE 1940"S !!
BABIED AND CARED FOR BY A FEMALE PILOT WHO COULD SHOW US ALL A THING OR TWO ABOUT KEEPING STUFF NICE !!
THIS IS WHAT PRIDE OF OWNERSHIP REALLY LOOKS LIKE !!
THE EXTERIOR IS CLASSY, UNIQUE BUT NOT WIERD, AND EVERYONE WILL WATCH WHEN YOU TAXI BY !!
WHICH IS NOT SOMETHING YOU CAN SAY FOR THE AVERAGE, 150, MOST OF WHICH VERY OLD AND TIRED !!
THE INTERIOR IS EXCELLENT, WITH BLUE CLOTH SEATS IN FANTASTIC CONDITION AND MATCHING SIDE PANEL INSERTS.
PLASTICS ARE A REAL PROBLEM ON MOST 150"S, BUT ALL, I MEAN ALL OF IT LOOKS GREAT !! SHE EVEN HAS A NEW PILLAR PLASTIC FOR THE LEFT SIDE, BOUGHT BUT NOT INSTALLED, BUT IT DOESN"T NEED A REPLACEMENT, SHE JUST WANTED TO HAVE A SPARE !!
WHEEL PANTS, WHICH I THINK MAKES ALL THE DIFFERENCE TO AN AIRPLANES "LOOK", NOT TO MENTION MAKING IT A LITTLE FASTER IN CRUISE.
THE DASH LOOKS GREAT AS WELL, WITH NEW PLASTICS, AND LATE STYLE GYRO INSTRUMENTS.
THE DASH IS WIRED FOR A CESSNA 300 SERIES NAV-COM, AND THE VOR INDICATOR IS STILL INSTALLED AND INCLUDED, BUT THE ACTUAL RADIO PANEL UNIT HAS BEEN REMOVED, AND IS NOT INCLUDED. 3 DIFFERENT RADIOS WILL FIT IN THIS TRAY AND USE THESE CONNECTORS, THE MK 12D CR (DIGITAL READOUT, 720 CHANNEL, WITH FLIP-FLOP), MX-300 (SIMILAR IN FEATURES TO THE MK12D CR, BUT THIS IS 760 CHANNEL), AND THE TRIED AND TRUE 720 CHANNEL RT-328T. ALL OF THESE RADIOS ARE AVAILABLE READILY ON THE OPEN MARKET, FROM US OR OTHERS, SO YOU CAN CHOOSE EXACTLY WHAT YOU WANT, AND SLIDE IT IN !!
THE TRANSPONDER TRAY IS INCLUDED, AND WIRED UP TO THE AIRPLANE, ANTENNA AND MODE "C" ENCODER. JUST SLIDE ANOTHER PANEL UNIT BACK IN THE MOUNTED TRAY.
THIS AIRPLANE SUFFERED LIGHT AIRFRAME DAMAGE TO THE RIGHT WINGTIP WHEN THE PILOT TAXIED (ON THE TAXIWAY, WHERE SHE SHOULD HAVE BEEN) BEHIND A JET THAT WAS JUST STARTING UP !!
THE JET WASH LIFTED THE LEFT WING UP, CAUSING THE AIRPLANE TO PIVOT ON ITS NOSEWHEEL AND RIGHT MAIN, ALLOWING THE PROP TIPS TO TOUCH THE GROUND, AS WELL AS THE RIGHT WING OUTBOARD AND PLASTIC WINGTIP.
I TOOK MANY CLOSE-UP SHOTS OF THE WINGTIP, SO IT WAS CLEAR EXACTLY WHAT THE DAMAGE IS.
THE PLASTIC WINGTIP IS BROKEN, AND WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE NAV LIGHT IS STILL OK.
THE FAR OUTBOARD LEADING EDGE ON A 150, 152 AND 172 HAS A SEPARATE LEADING EDGE SKIN, ABOUT 18" IN FROM THE PLASTIC TIP THAT CESSNA DESIGNED AS BEING EASY TO REPLACE, AS THEY KNEW THAT THE LEADING EDGE TIPS WERE THE MOST VULNERABLE.
THE MAIN WING SPARS DO NOT GO ALL THE WAY OUT TO THE TIPS, SO AN INJURY HERE DOES NOT AFFECT ANY OTHER STRUCTURE. THIS WING HAS A WRINKLE IN THE LEADING EDGE OF THE TIP SPAR, AND A WRINKLE IN THAT LEADING EDGE "REPLACEABLE" SKIN.
THAT"S IT !!!!
THE REST OF THE WING, AND IN FACT THE REST OF THE WHOLE AIRFRAME WAS NOT AFFECTED !!
NO DAMAGE TO THE MAIN WING STRUCTURE, FUEL TANK, ATTACH POINTS OR LIFT STRUT.
THE RIGHT FLAP AND AILERON ARE UNDAMAGED, AND THE FUSELAGE AND WING ARE UNDAMAGED AT THE ATTACH POINTS.
THE ENTIRE FUSELAGE IS UNDAMAGED, INCLUDING NO FIREWALL DAMAGE, DOORS FIT WELL, NO WRINKLES DOWN THE SIDES, AND THE GEARBOXES ARE GOOD.
NONE OF THE GEAR IS DAMAGED
NONE OF THE GLASS IS DAMAGED, FRONT BACK OR SIDES
THE TAIL FEATHERS ARE UNDAMAGED, BUT I DID NOTE SOME SMALL HAIL PINGS ON THE TAIL FEATHERS, LIGHT AND SCATTERED, AND LIKELY OLD, AS HAIL WAS NOT PART OF THIS INSURANCE CLAIM, AND THERE IS NONE THAT I COULD FIND ON THE TAILCONE OR WINGS OR WING SURFACES
THE LEFT WING, FLAP, AILERON AND TIP SUSTAINED NO DAMAGE.
THE COWLING AND ENGINE MOUNT SUSTAINED NO DAMAGE.
BUT, AS YOU CAN SEE, THE PROP TIPS DID !
THE PILOT SAYS SHE WAS AT IDLE, AND THE PROP SCRAPED A COUPLE OF TIMES BEFORE GRAVITY BROUGHT THE AIRPLANE BACK ONTO ALL 3 GEAR AGAIN. SHE TAXIED BACK IN, WITH NO ISSUES, AND ONLY KNEW THE EXTENT OF THE SCRAPING THEN. THE ENGINE DID NOT STOP !!
THE PROP IS SCRAPED AND CURLED ENOUGH AT THE TIPS AS TO NOT OVERHAUL, BUT THESE 69/49 MCCAULEY PROPS ARE READILY AVAILABLE.
I WILL NOT VENTURE A GUESS ON WHAT YOUR MECHANIC MIGHT REQUIRE AS AN INSPECTION ON THIS ENGINE, BUT THE FORMER OWNER WAS OF THE OPINION THAT SHE WOULD FLY IT WITH A REPLACEMENT PROP !
IN FACT, I HEARD FROM TWO DIFFERENT PEOPLE WHO KNEW THE AIRPLANE, WHO ASKED ME IF I HAD BROUGHT A WINGTIP AND A PROP WITH ME TO FLY IT BACK TO MY HOME BASE IN MINNESOTA, SO THAT TYPE OF REPAIR SEEMS TO BE THE CONSENSUS.
NOTICE THAT THERE IS NO DAMAGE OR SCRAPING TO THE COWLING (IT NEVER TOUCHED), AND NO DAMAGE TO THE SPINNER (IT NEVER TOUCHED)!
IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A GOOD LITTLE TRAINER OR TIME BUILDER FOR YOUR KIDS, OR GRANDKIDS, OR YOURSELF, THIS AIRPLANE WOULD BE THE PROPER TICKET, AND THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT IT"S NOT WORN OUT, SMELLY, DIRTY OR UGLY, SO YOUR WIFE WILL EVEN APPROVE !!
THE 0-200 100 H.P. ENGINE HAS ONLY 860 HOURS SINCE MAJOR OVERHAUL, AND THE MANUFACTURERS RECOMMENDED TIME BETWEEN OVERHAULS IS 1,800 ON THIS ENGINE, SO YOU HAVE GOT ABOUT 1,000 HOURS TO USE FOR FREE !!
