“Excellent Condition! Always been in climate controlled hangar!”
Model Year: 1997 Make: Loehle 5151
Loehle 5151 Mustang - Experimental Aircraft
Rotax 582 Electric Start, 162 total hours, airspeed, ALT, compass , tach, fuel gauge, water temp., dual EGT, Electric Trim, BRS, VAL Com, 760 Radio, 3 Blade GSC Prop, Heel Brakes, Retracts, Fuselage and Wings all Sitka Spruce. Always hangered in a climate controlled building. 12 1/2 gallon tank. Excellent Condition!
The aircraft is mostly made of Sitka spruce & aircraft plywood and covered with Poly-Fiber Finish.
Of all the sailplanes, airplanes, and warbirds I have flown this is one of the easiest! My first landing was a full left slip, rotating, tail wheel first touchdown, WOW!
All control responses are crisp & positive.
Visibility is outstanding.
Inside storage behind pilot.
Split heel brakes makes stopping & steering precise.
Before covering the airframe was coated with thinned T-88 epoxy.
False ribs were added to leading edge of the wings.
Molds were made & fiberglass wheel wells were produced from the molds. Cuffs were added to provide room for the wheels & struts to recess into the wings.
The replica exhaust stacks also allow air to exit the cowl area.
Fresh Air Vent control is located on the instrument panel.
This airplane is very quiet in the air.
The exhaust pipe is wrapped in fiberglass to reduce heat in the engine compartment.
Now a little bit about me the builder of this aircraft.
I started my aircraft building as a boy, building and competing with models. This led to my career of becoming a patternmaker, which was a natural progression.
I have owned a pattern shop, machine shop & foundry for over 50 years & have made warbird parts for B-25, B-17 & P82, AT6, PT26 aircraft.
My next step was flying, building, and competing with sailplanes for 17 years.
I moved on to power aircraft including Cessna, home builts and ultralights. Progressed to restoring and flying several warbirds. {PT 26 and AT6}
All told I have about 8,000 hours flying time.
The 5151 is the 9th airplane I have built & or restored!
