Make: Windrose motor glider Model Year: 2000
The Windrose design philosophy adheres to the criteria of a sailplane design contest , an event held in Tehachapi California. A simple in expensive ,quick to build self launch glider. Composite construction with carved foam covered with fiberglass for this long (15 meter) wing with carbon spars. Designed to give an estimated 38-1 glide at 51 mph.Min. sink 1.85 f/s at 46 mph..
This project has been mostly finished, but has not been flight tested. Ground testing including a couple of hops went very well, but builders age and physical condition result in moving on to other things. No government paper work has been started. Construction picture album available. Wing span 48.8 ft. empty weight about 574 lbs. payload 271 lbs.. Design modified to enable the use of a longer propellers by incorporating a tricycle gear arrangement with retractable nose gear. This resulted in much improved thrust. Powered by a 503 Rotax 2 cycle engine of 48 hp. Video on u-tube of short wing flight. Designers Erv Culver , a very capable Lockheed engineer, and Jim Maupin also designed the Woodstock and Carbon Dragon, and have passed away so there is no plans support available. Project needs side windows installed , engine cover if desired , nose gear door closing rigged. Trailer included
