“Meticulously Restored”
Make: Piper Model Year: 1950 PA-18 Super Cub
This 160 hp Super Cub was meticulously restored over several years, flying again in 2008. With 400 hrs since restoration, it has been very carefully flown, hangared and maintained so its appearance still is fresh and virtually flawless. The restoration goal was high quality, not speed of completion with many detail improvements included. Poly-Fiber & Aerothane was applied by Bob Schefter, noted restorer in Fergus Falls, MN. Several Features added for ease of maintenance; partial belly panels, 3 piece boot cowl, drop down circuit breaker panel and many nut plates instead of sheetmetal screws. Starting with a 1950 Super Cub, 18-387, the airframe has 4000 hrs but there is very little of the original airplane left – new wings, flaps, ailerons, tail surfaces, fuel tanks, engine mount, sheet metal, etc. About 50% of the fuselage is original: New doors, all window frames, bird cage & stringer stands, tail reinforced, reversed dogleg, X brace added and more. All welding by AWS award winner & IA, Bob Eckstein. The engine is a narrow deck O-320-B2B. 160hp, 3000 hr TT, 400 SMOH (Millennium Cyl), all new Accessories. Compression checks 78/80. Oil consumption is approx 8 hrs/qt. Damage History: Ground loop back in history but since then all structure has been replaced except the fuselage which was expertly repaired. Prop Strike 300 hrs ago (bent outer ½ inch of tips). Engine teardown revealed no damage. New Borer 82/44 Prop Installed. The Airplane is hangared at Anoka County Airport (KANE) in the Minneapolis & St Paul Metro Area.
