History (NOT This One)
This is the original Lancer-200, the aircraft that started it all for Lancair more than a 40 years ago. Please note the apparently oversize air inlet under the cowl, a requirement made necessary by the large underslung carburetor on the Continental O-200 engine that was used on this early aircraft. Also notice that the wingtips look a bit different than they do on the current incarnation, as they swept downward rather than utilizing the vortex-generating upward sweep of the present design. This aircraft can still be viewed up close and personal as it currently hangs in the EAA Museum in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
Here you see the next generation of the Lancair 2-seaters, the Lancair-235. (There apparently was already an aircraft out there called a Lancer, so with this incarnation the name "Lancair" was incorporated and has been the trademark of all the company"s aircraft ever since) Notice the smaller air scoop on this version, and the still downswept wingtips. The airframe was modified slightly to accept the Lycoming O-235 engine, and this was the intermediate design which led to the 2-seat version we see today.
