“The BD-5 is a complete shell, without motor or instruments. It was found hanging in a bookstore. The condition is excellent.”
Make: Bede Model Year: 1978
I found the plane hanging in a bookstore in Southbury, CT. The father of the owner of the bookstore had bought the BD-5 kit back in the 60"s or 70"s, stored it in his garage and never built it. His son inherited it, and he showed it to a neighbor, a retired A&P mechanic, who built it for him. He then hung it in his bookstore. As he was selling the store, I asked him if the plane was for sale, he said yes, and I bought it. It was my intention to paint it and hang it in my barn. It never made it out of my basement. Now we are moving to a small house in Florida, so the BD-5 must go. The workmanship on the plane is excellent, One of the pictures shows the flush riveting he did. With the exception of the red nose, the rest is unpainted aluminum. The wings have been highly polished, I bought the four bladed prop for $150 because I thought it would look better than the standard prop. It was made as an experiment to see if it would work. I don"t believe it was ever flown.
The tail is 89" wide and 58" high. The fuselage overall is 12" 8" long, 49 "wide at the ends of the wing spars and 43" high. The wings are 30" wide and 72" long, and are separate from the aircraft. They wing spar is a tube designed to slide into a slightly larger tube in the fuselage and secured by a bolt. It takes about two minutes to take them off. Buyer must arrange shipping.
