POBER JUNIOR ACE SPEC AND INFO PAGE Please note; this aircraft is a not a “Corben” Junior Ace. The Pober Junior Ace is a similar design. However, it is a much larger aircraft than the Corben. It’s design history is available online (as well as plans and specs). To summarize, The Corben was redesigned by Paul Poberezny (the EAA founder and hence; Pober) and made larger to accommodate two adults comfortably. I purchased this aircraft from the builder, Jake Jaks. The construction is of good quality and the design itself is very strong. The airplane was built exactly to the plans. It is currently registered, has a fresh condition inspection and, is ready to fly anywhere. In the time I have owned it the following minor issues have been resolved: new tires, adjusted wing angle of incidence in accordance with plans supplement, corrected/adjusted rigging, modified landing gear to correct specs, installed a new seat/upholstery, fabricated and installed a new, taller, flat panel style windshield and, installed an integral 12 row Corvair oil cooler and removed the external unit. It is now a finished aircraft, in my opinion, and I fly it regularly. It currently has 180+ hours TTAF&E but that will change-I fly a lot of short local hops for fun. The following are the speeds, weights, and flight specs: - Empty Weight: 815 lbs - Gross Weight: 1319 lbs (to comply with LSA rules, although the design is rated for much more) - Fuel: 18 gal - Fuel burn: 5-6 gph - Cruise: 80 @ 2400 rpm W/2 aboard - Stall: 35 - VNE 130 - Take off: About 500’ with full fuel and 2 aboard-hot day - Landing: Depends on the pilot Equipment/Systems: - Full electrical system; electric start, alternator - Transponder: Narco AT-50 - Altitude encoder - Cleveland brakes and wheels - Warp Drive prop with 14” spinner - ELT Engine: - Corvair 170 cubic inch 6 cylinder, 100hp-120hp - Full William Wynne conversion (see website: here ) - Stromberg carb with carb heat and mixture - Dual ignition - AvGas only-I don"t fly on car gas or drive on AvGas - Smoothest engine I’ve ever flown, no issues what so ever and very powerful There is an EAA Experimenter magazine article on the build available at: here You can also access the article at CONTACT! Magazine: Issue 101 March-July 2010 There are YouTube videos of it as well; just search Pober Jr Ace and you’ll see them. My daughter also has a YouTube video featuring the airplane. Just search “Extreme Makeup Challenge Flying”. Her screen name is “Linz Mushel” (shameless plug).
Please review the article, it’s very interesting and explains a lot about the airplane and engine. Also, the Acro Sport website contains information on the aircraft as well. Search here for Pober Jr Ace and you can see it in flight.
Purchase instructions: A $250 PayPal deposit is due within 2 days of auction end-NOT THE ENTIRE PURCHASE PRICE. The remainder must be paid in cash upon acquisition/transfer (pick up) before airplane is removed/transported/flown from my home base airport. Summary: This is a fun, impressive, airplane. It’s larger than most homebuilts and has what I call “ramp presence”. She’s about the same size-actually slightly larger than-as a C172. Everybody notices her at fly ins. If you’re looking for a basic, solid, large, tough, “low and slow” airplane with LOTS of power and niceties such as electric start and XPDR/ALT then you’ll like the Jr. Ace. Flight characteristics are good and she flies like a Cub. She sounds like a C180. Landing/Ground handling are the best I’ve encountered with any tail dragger. However, I am adamant that any prospective buyer be properly tail wheel experienced, current and, competent-not just “signed off”-to purchase this airplane. I know this may seem harsh or unusual (and it has cost me several sales over the last listing period) but, I like this airplane (so does my wife), Mr. Jaks is my friend and, I promised to take good care of “his’ airplane. Bearing this in mind, this airplane is the most docile conventional gear airplane I have flown. Many people have asked me to “check them out” in the airplane. I can not do this (see above comment on tail wheel requirement). It is my absolute and utmost opinion that anyone purchasing an experimental aircraft should be competent in the evaluation of an experimental airplane, engines, structures, and their own pilot skill to fly such a craft. Initial checkout in this airplane is extremely easy and straightforward and many other pilots have flown her with pleasing results. Of course, a thorough familiarization will be given by me prior to the new owner flying home. Please contact me with any questions prior to bidding, Only bid once you are confident this is the airplane you will want to own, fly and care for. Thanks for looking!!!
