I bought a 1/4 share five years ago mainly because my old flight instructor/A&P was doing the annual and said is was a good plane. Also the engine is awesome. The IO-540-D puts out a monstrous 300 HP and uses 14.5 gallons an hour at 75% power.
We use 145 knots for flight planning.
This plane flies hard IFR often, it"s very reliable and the bylaws require experienced pilots. If you don"t have time in a high performance aircraft, you will be expected to spend 10 hours with an instructor.
Last annual was May 2015. Complete log books are available, all AD"s are current, all grips cleared and the checking account has $12,120 as of June 26th, with another $4,000 or so due to be deposited at the middle of July.
This is an old plane but like many it"s been well cared for and likely lived it"s entire life inside a hanger.
Air frame has just over 8,400 hours. (no damage)
Engine has 1,389 hours and is running great. The last five years of oil analysis are available and indicate the engine should make it to TBO if it flies more.
Plane routinely flies to Fort Lauderdale, Nashville and up the coast to Connecticut. There are four fuel tanks totaling 84 gallons of which 83.6 are usable. We try to put 100 hours on the plane every year but rarely make it.
The specs on what this plane can carry are frankly impressive.
Prop will be overhauled next annual at a cost of $2,500 to $3,500 and is covered under the current budget.
I"m selling my share because I"m relocating to Maine.
Plane is based in Norfolk Virginia. LL gas for our partnership is $1.00 off the listed Norfolk price 365 days a year (currently just $5.60 a gallon) and you are strongly encouraged (basically mandated) to use the valet service with preferably NLT two hours heads notice to the flight line. This service is free and included with the hanger rent. Meaning you call the day before and when you show up your plane is on the line, gassed and ready to go.If you"re an IFR pilot looking for a six seat work horse, this is your plane and it"s NOT a huge emotional or money decision, which is why the price is fixed. Like most partnerships there are dues: $200 a month, flight time at $55 an hour (tachometer) both of which are billed quarterly. One negative is the Garmin GNC-300XL IRF-Approach GPS with moving map. I trained with the Garmin 430 and I thought this older unit was a big negative and from the very start we planned on upgrading. However the 300XL is very capable and instead of using 30% of the functionality of the 430 we really know the 300XL. Better isn"t always the best way to go and as the data base is supported the partners intend to keep this IFR certified navigation and approach GPS.
In five years I had a scheduling conflict with another partner just once. Scheduling is done online and there are three partners and three dry leases. Both active partners are retired navy. The oldest partner is an Annapolis graduate, navy pilot who flew with Delta and has logged about 35,000 hours. The newest partner and 50% owner is a former navy special operations guy who is also a glider pilot and now small business owner. We have one meeting a year and genuinely enjoy each other.
I"m also former navy, Academy grad and currently the group"s secretary/treasurer and assistant maintenance officer. Please reach out if you have any specific questions. I will be in the area until late July and if you"re interested, by all means, let"s go fly the plane. :-) Current date: 2015-07-18
