“Great candidate for restoration”
Make: Piper Model Year: 1938
Pre-war 1938 Cub. This is so original it still has the wicker style seat sling material. A -50 means it"s original engine was a Continental A-50. It now has an A-65-8. Total restoration required but as Cub goes this one is a little unique. Logbooks unavailable history is rebuildable from FAA records. Not to many of these around. We are an Aviation Museum and would consider trades. Please feel free to ask questions. Available for inspection by appointment. Update 11-16: It"s been pointed out that the data plate say"s J-3C-65. That"s a homemade data plate. The CD from FAA registration has records that go back to the day it left the factory and it clearly states it"s a J-3C-50. I"ve found it"s fairly common for people to state the - number relative to the horsepower of the Cub. For example, my Cub has an 85 on it, but it"s still a J-3C-65. There"s no such thing as a J-3C-85, but people refer to them that way when they have the bigger engine. I suspect when that data plate was made it had the -65 on it by then. Wish I still had the-50 engine to go with it, but even if I did I doubt I"d hang it on and fly it. Can you image the performance in the Texas summer heat with -50! Update 11-29: We"ve been often asked what trades we"d consider, we"re open to suggestions. One sub-set of our museum is the Rutan Aircraft Flying Museum. We"re looking for flying examples of a Quickie, Solitaire, VariViggen, LongEZ, Varieze and Defiant. Projects, parts and engines, O-320"s and GE T-58"s in particular.
