1944 Fairchild PT-19A Mfd by Aeronca Here is an interesting airplane. It is a 1944 Fairchild PT-19AA that was made by Aeronca Aircraft for the war effort. Now the interesting part---a fellow decided to take the plane and make a boat. He cut the fuselage and left the front cockpit intact, put a pusher engine---a Continental 65hp with a pusher prop. He removed the engine and put foam for floatation. He modified the landiing gear to make stabilizers while it was in the water. The story is he took it to the lake one time and it "tried to fly" so he only took it out once. I purchased the parts hoping someone could use parts from this rare airplane. The aircraft has many of the original parts. Here are some of the parts that I see that are present: In the cockpit is the dash, 3 instruments that appear to be original, the throttle/mixture controls, the rudder petals, the stick, seat and windshield. The elevator is there altho not attached to the plane, the rudder, alerons, nose cowl, and upper cowl. The landing gear is there, but may have been modified. It has a trailer that moves it and the trailer has the Fairchild wheels on it. It has a complete Continental 65 with mags, carb, oil tank and the like. There is an engine mountn on the plane to the engine. There are more parts there and feel free to ask for pictures---I have many more. The Serial number is 9727AE, Model PT19AAE, Date of manufacture 1944 and MAA Plate # 110833 Now the worst part---the plane itself sat outside for several years and is fairly weathered. The thing I believe this would be great for is making it a static display for pictures or advertising. Put intruments in the holes, put metal on the sides, cushion the original seat and paint it, it would make a great display. I would encourage early inspection in Chattanooga. A deposit of $250 is expected within 3 days of the end of the auction and the balance is due at pick up. I have many other pictures so ask.
