THE PA-24 COMANCHE WAS PRODUCED WITH 1 BASIC AIRFRAME AND 4 ENGINE CHOICES: 180 hp 4 CYLINDER LYCOMING 250 hp 6 CYLINDER LYCOMING 260 hp 6 CYLINDER LYCOMING 400 hp 8 CYLINDER LYCOMING THE 400 hp VERSION WAS A BEAST, AND EVEN WHEN GAS WAS CHEAP, PILOTS BALKED AT BURNING 20-22 GALLONS PER HOUR. WHEN GAS WAS CHEAPER, THE 250, WHICH BECAME THE 260, WAS POPULAR, BECAUSE EVEN THOUGH IT BURNED 15 or 16 GALLONS PER HOUR, IT WAS FASTER THAN THE 180. ( THE 250"s ACHILLES HEEL IS RANGE. IT CANT EVEN GO 4 HOURS ON ITS STANDARD TANKS) WITH THE CURRENT PRICE OF AVGAS, THE 180 HAS BECOME THE FAVORITE MODEL, AS IT WILL DO 138-140 KNOTS (due to the smooth, tapered wing), CARRIES 5 HOURS OR MORE OF FUEL, AND BURNS 8.5-9 GALLONS PER HOUR, WITH A BIG COMFORTABLE CABIN, SMOOTH CONTROLS AND GOOD DYNAMIC STABILITY! THIS IS A VERY GOOD LOOKING 180 COMANCHE! THE PAINT IS A NICE RICH MAROON, IN A PLEASING PATTERN, OVER A BRIGHT WHITE, NOT CREAM. THE PAINT IS SMOOTH AND SHINY AND FULL OF LUSTER !! INSIDE IS EVEN BETTER ! THE SUPPLE ULTRA-LEATHER SEATS AND SIDE PANELS ARE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, IN A MODERN LIGHT TAN, WITH PLEASING RED AND BLACK STRIPES THROUGH THE BACKRESTS. THE SEAT BOTTOMS AND BACKRESTS HAVE BEEN REWORKED INTO A MODERN SHAPE AND CONTOUR, AND SIT VERY WELL! THE SIDE PANELS ARE MATCHING AND ALSO IN GREAT CONDITION, AS ARE THE HEADLINER AND THE BLACK CARPET THIS IS AN EXCELLENT, PRIDE OF OWNERSHIP TYPE OF INTERIOR! THE DASH IS CLEAN, AND THE COVER OVER THE INSTRUMENT AREA IS A CARBON FIBER LOOK, AND IT HELPS TO MODERNIZE THE OVERALL LOOK ! THIS NICE AIRPLANE SUFFERED DAMAGE WHEN IT LANDED GEAR UP AT ITS HOME AIRPORT OF QUAD CITIES (MOLINE IL./DAVENPORT IOWA), BECAUSE THE OWNER/PILOT WAS DISTRACTED, AND JUST FORGOT TO LOWER THE GEAR!! LIFTED UP CAREFULLY, THE AIRPLANE IS SITTING FINE NOW ON ITS COMPLETELY UNDAMAGED GEAR ! YOU HAVE TO WONDER WHAT THE PILOT HAD GOING ON, AS HE DIDN"T HAVE THE FLAPS DOWN EITHER, WHICH IS GOOD FOR THE AIRPLANE, AS THERE IS NO FLAP DAMAGE !! HE MUST HAVE BEEN A GOOD PILOT, BECAUSE HE LANDED THE AIRPLANE ON THE CENTER OF THE BELLY ONLY, NO PORPOISING OR BOUNCING THERE IS NO DAMAGE AT ALL TO THE LOWER COWLING, THE AIR SCOOP, THE NOSE GEAR DOOR OR THE NOSE GEAR WELL!! THERE IS SCRAPPING ON THE BELLY, TO THREE SKINS, AND THE 2 SUPPORT RIBS UNDERNEATH THE OVERLAPS WHERE THESE 3 SKINS MEET. THE CENTER OF THESE 3 SKINS IS ACTUALLY A SEPARATE, BOLT ON ACCESS PANEL, NOT EVEN A RIVETED SKIN. THATS IT!! THERE DOES NOT SEEM TO BE ANY ADDITIONAL DAMAGE TO THE AIRFRAME ITSELF FROM THIS INCIDENT. THERE ARE 3 BELLY MOUNTED ANTENNAS THAT WERE SCRAPED, AND THESE ANTENNAS SEEM TO HAVE SAVED THE REMAINDER OF THE BELLY FROM ADDITIONAL DAMAGE. THERE IS SOME SCATTERED LIGHT HAIL ON THE TOP SURFACES OF THIS AIRPLANE. IT IS NOT RECENT, AS IT IS DIFFICULT TO FIND UNLESS YOU ARE ACTUALLY LOOKING FOR IT. THE FLUSH RIVITS ON THE WINGS HELP ANY HAIL THERE TO BLEND IN WITH THE SURROUNDING AREAS. THE HAIL DOES NOT DETRACT FROM THE OVERALL GOOD APPEARANCE OF THIS AIRPLANE. THE HARTZELL PROP TIPS ARE BENT BACK, AS YOU WOULD SUSPECT. THIS IS THE LATER STYLE "COMPACT" HUB, NOT THE ORIGINAL STYLE. THIS ALMOST NEW PROP EVEN HAS THE LATER STYLE OF THE COMPACT HUBS, WHICH ELIMINATES THE RECURRING DIE PENETRANT INSPECTIONS. THE SPINNER IS UNDAMAGED AS WELL. PROP TOTAL TIME IS 199 SINCE BRAND NEW IN 2016 THE 0-360 180 H.P. ENGINE HAS ONLY 305 HOURS SINCE MAJOR OVERHAUL, IN 2006 THE COMPRESSIONS AT THE LAST ANNUAL WERE FANTASTIC AT 77,77,76,79/80. OF COURSE, THIS ENGINE WILL REQUIRE AN INSPECTION AS A RESULT OF THE CURRENT PROP STRIKE. THIS ENGINE WAS UPDATED WITH NEY NOZZLES AT THE MAJOR, FOR BETTER OIL COOLING, AND HAS A PLANE POWER ALTERNATOR SYSTEM ADDED AS WELL THIS ENGINE ALSO HAS AN OIL FILTER ADAPTER AND AIR/OIL SEPARATOR INSTALLED. VERY CLEAN UNDER THE COWL THE VERY TIP OF THE TAILPIPE SEEMS TO BE THE ONLY DAMAGE TO THE EXHAUST SYSTEM. OUTSIDE, A KNOTS2U HID HIGH INTENSITY LANDING LIGHT SYSTEM WAS JUST INSTALLED INSIDE, OPTIONS INCLUDE: 4 PLACE EGT AND CHT ALCOR DIGITAL FUEL FLOW/TOTALIZER DIGITAL OUTSIDE AIR TEMP KING KMA-24 AUDIO PANEL WITH MARKER BEACONS KING KR-87 DIGITAL ADF SYSTEM WITH INDICATOR LATE STYLE ATTITUDE INDICATOR AND GOOD LOOKING FLIGHT INSTRUMENTS THERE ARE TRAYS AND WIRING INCLUDED FOR A KING KX-155 NAV-COM WITH GLIDESLOPE, A KING FLATPACK DME AND KING MODE C TRANSPONDER, BUT THE PANEL UNITS THEMSELVES ARE NOT INCLUDED. THIS AIRPLANE HAD BEEN EQUIPPED WITH AN STEC WING LEVELER SYSTEM AND AN STEC ALTITUDE HOLD SYSTEM. THOSE SYSTEMS ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THIS LISTING.
