WHEN LYCOMING ANNOUNCED A FUEL INJECTED, 200 H.P. VERSION OF THE 360, THE FOLKS AT MOONEY, ALWAYS IN SEARCH OF MORE PERFORMANCE, OFFERED IT IN THE SAME AIRFRAME AS THE “C”.AS YOU MIGHT IMAGINE, THIS SMOOTHER RUNNING, MORE FUEL EFFICIENT ENGINE, WITH 11% MORE HORSEPOWER, INCREASED THE CRUISE SPEED, DECREASED THE REQUIRED TAKE-OFF RUN, AND INCREASED BOTH RATE OF CLIMB AND MAX ALTITUDE.THE 200 H.P. REALLY WAKES UP THIS AIRFRAME !!NO WONDER MOONEY CALLS THIS THE “SUPER”!BY 1966, THE ENTIRE MOONEY LINE, INCLUDING THE SUPER HAD BEEN MODERNIZED WITH SQUARED OFF SIDE WINDOWS FOR A CLEANER, FASTER LOOK, AND UPDATED THE DASH TO A 6 PACK INSTRUMENT LAYOUT.THIS AIRPLANE HAS A COOL MAROON PAINT JOB, WITH ATTRACTIVE AND UNIQUE SILVER STRIPING. NO BORING WHITE OR CREAM HERE !!IT LOOKS NICE AND IS VERY CUSTOM AND IS PROBIBLY UNIQUE IN THE WORLD!THE OVERALL CONDITION OF THE PAINT IS GOOD, BUT IT IS NOT NEW , WITH A FEW TOUCHED UP AREAS AROUND SOME CHIPS IN THE COWL. THE PAINT HAS SOME METALLIC IN IT, AND I THINK IT WOULD SHINE UP REALLY NICE WITH A LITTLE ELBOW GREASE.NO HAIL DAMAGE IS APPARENT, AND NO CORROSION APPEARS TO BE POPPING THROUGH THE PAINT ANYWHERE (THIS AIRPLANE IS LOCATED IN THE “LAND OF NO CORROSION” 1 HOUR NORTH OF THE PLACE WHERE ALL THE AIRLINES PARK THEIR PLANES FOR LONG TERM, CORROSION-FREE STORAGE).THE FACTORY 1966 COWLING LEAVES TOO BIG OF A HOLE IN THE FRONT, SO AN STC FOR A COWL CLOSURE MOD, WHICH INCREASES THE CRUISE SPEED AS WELL AS INCREASING COOLING EFFECTIVENESS WAS DEVISED. THIS AIRPLANE HAS THE MOD INSTALLED.THE 1966 ALSO HAS THE TOP COWL THAT IS REMOVABLE WITH A FEW QUICK TURN FASTENERS, UNLIKE THE EARLIER MODELS THAT REQUIRED A POWER SCREW GUN TO UNSCREW THE 100 SCREWS THAT HELD IT IN PLACE!NICE GREY CLOTH SEATS, WITH MATCHING SIDE PANELS, WITH THE CUSTOMARY CRACKED PLASTIC ON THE PILOTS SIDE PANELTHE DASH HAS GOOD LOOKING INSTRUMENTS, WITH LATE STYLE ATTITUDE AND D.G.THE ONLY AVIONICS INCLUDED ARE THE KING KMA-20 AUDIO PANEL AND SIGTRONICS INTERCOM SYSTEM, BUT TRAYS ARE STILL INSTALLED AND WIRED FOR A KX-155 WITH GLIDESLOPE AND A NARCO TRANSPONDER, SO IF YOU HAVE ACCESS TO BORROW THESE, YOU COULD SLIDE THEM BACK IN TO FERRY THIS AIRPLANE. IF YOU WANT TO PURCHASE THIS TYPE OF EQUIPMENT, IT IS READILY AVAILABLE, FROM US OR OTHERS, NOW OR IN THE FUTURE, OR USE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO UPGRADE TO WHATEVER YOU REALLY WANT.THIS AIRPLANE IS EQUIPPED WITH AN UPDATED HARTZELL 3 BLADE PROP, BUT AS YOU CAN SEE, ALL 3 BLADES ARE BENT AT THE TIPS. (THE SPINNER IS GOOD THOUGH).I’M SURE YOU HAVE GUESSED BY NOW THAT THIS AIRPLANE MADE A GEAR-UP LANDING.THE MOONEYS GEAR SYSTEM IS VERY SIMPLE AND ALMOST BULLET-PROOF, SO IT IS NO SURPRISE THAT THERE WAS NO GEAR MALFUNCTION, THE OWNER SIMPLY FORGOR TO PUT THE GEAR DOWN!TOO BAD, BECAUSE IT APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN A GOOD LANDING.THE NOSE GEAR DOORS HAVE SOME SCRAPINGBUT THE NOSE GEAR WELL SKINSAND THE SKIN BEHIND THE WELL ARE NOT SCRAPED !!!!THE BELLY SKINS THAT ARE SCRAPED START JUST AFT OF THE LEADING EDGE (SO INVISIBLE FROM THE TOP, YOU MUST BEND UNDER THE PLANE TO SEE ANY SCRAPING), AND THE SCRAPING STOP BEFORE THE TRAILING EDGE OF THE WING, SO IT REALLY ONLY APPEARS TO BE 3 SKINS TOTAL, AND THE TWO STRINGERS WHERE THESE 3 SKINS OVERLAP.KEEP IN MIND THAT ALL 3 OF THESE SKINS ARE SCREWED ON, NOT RIVETED ON, SO THE SKINS THEMSELVES ARE VERY EASY TO REPLACE.THE STRINGERS ARE NOT BULKHEADS THAT GO ALL AROUND THE FUSELAGE, THEY ARE SHORT UNITS THAT JUST ATTACH BELOW THE WING, SO NOT TRICKY THERE EITHER. I WOULD EXPECT THAT THE AIRPLANE COULD FERRY WITHOUT REPLACEMENT OF ANY SKINS, STRINGERS, NOR EVEN THE NOSE DOORS.IN ADDITION TO THESE SKINS AND STRINGERS, THERE IS DAMAGE TO ONE FIBERGLASS ANTENNA(MARKER BEAKONS), THE TRANSPONDER STICK ANTENNA, AND THE GLASS AND BULB IN THE BELLY STROBE.THERE IS NO DAMAGE TO EITHER SIDE WING AT ALL !!THE AILERONS ARE UNDAMAGEDTHE LEFT FLAP IS GOOD, AND THE RIGHT FLAP HAS THE SMALLEST AREA OF PAINT MISSING, BUT I DON’T THINK IT WAS FROM SCRAPING, BUT WAS PRE-EXISTING.ONE OF THE 6 FLAP HANGER BRACKETS HAS A SMALL AREA OF SCRAPING ON THE BOTTOM, BUT IT DID NOT COMPROMISE THE HINGE BOLT AND DID NOT TOUCH THE FLAP PORTION OF THE HINGE AT ALL.ALL OF THE SCRAPING IS ISOLATED TO THE CENTER OF THE MID-BELLY, SO THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO THE FIREWALL, COWL FLAPS, OR LOWER COWLING.LIKE THE UNDAMAGED WING, THE TAILCONE AND ALL OF THE TAILFEATHERS ARE ALSO UNDAMAGED.NONE OF THE 3 LANDING GEAR EXHIBIT ANY BENDING OR SCRAPINGAS THE PROP TIPS STRUCK THE GROUND, A PROP STRIKE INSPECTION OF THE ENGINE IS INDICATED.AS THIS LYCOMING IO-360 200 H.P. ENGINE HAS 2,452 HOURS SINCE FACTORY ZERO TIME REMANUFACTURE, YOU WOULD EXPECT IT TO BE RUN-OUT. HOWEVER, AT 1,100 SINCE REMAN, THE PROPELLOR STRUCK THE GROUND, AND A TEARDOWN WAS COMPLETED. THIS INCLUDED YELLOW TAGGING THE CRANKSHAFT AND CAMSHAFT, THE LIFTER BODIES, BEARINGS, ETC. AND TOP OVERHAULING THE CYLINDERS. ALTHOUGH NOT LISTED AS AN “OVERHAUL”, THE COMBINATION OF THE BOTTOM AND THE TOP WAS THE NEAR EQUIVALENT, AND THAT TOOK PLACE ONLY 1,319 HOURS AGO, SO YOU CAN SEE WHY IT WAS NOT A PROBLEM TO BE “TECHNICALLY” OVER ON TBO.COMPRESSION TEST AT THE LAST ANNUAL, WHERE ALL AD’S WERE COMPLIED WITH, WERE ALL GREAT AT 78/78/79 AND 78 OVER 80!AND YES, THE AIRPLANE IS STILL TECHNICALLY IN CALENDER ANNUAL TILL 11/1/2018.WE HAVE THE AIRFRAME LOGS SINCE BRAND NEW IN 1966, THE ENGINE LOG SINCE THE FACTORY REMANUFACTURE, AND THE PROP LOGS SINCE OVERHAUL AND LOTS OF OTHER PAPERWORK, INCLUDING STC’S AND 337’S, MAINTAINENCE AND SERVICE MANUALS, ETC.LOCATED ON THE RAMP AT THE COOLIDGE ARIZONA AIRPORT, A LITTLE OVER AN HOUR FROM PHOENIX, AND 5 MINUTES FROM THE “CASA GRANDE” RUINS NATIONAL MONUMENT, POSSIBLY THE OLDEST STRUCTURE IN THE U.S.WE WILL PAY THE TIEDOWN FEE FOR 30 DAYS FROM THE END OF THE AUCTION, AND THERE ARE ALSO HANGERS FOR RENT AT THE AIRPORT IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO PUT IT AWAY.THIS IS A NICE LITTLE “SUPER”, AND IT WILL MAKE SOMEONE A GOOD AIRPLANE AT A GOOD PRICE!GOOD BIDDING
