1967 MOONEY M20F EXECUTIVE PROJECT, GROUND DAMAGE ONLY, CHEAP !!
THE "F" MODEL MOONEY IS THE FIRST IN THE MODEL LINE TO RECEIVE THE "STRETCHED " FUSELAGE. THIS STRECH WAS ALMOST COMPLETELY DEVOTED TO ADDITIONAL REAR PASSENGER LEG ROOM, SO THE "F" IS REALLY THE FIRST MOONEY THAT REAL ADULTS CAN SIT IN COMFORTABLY IN THE BACK !!
THIS FUSELAGE MAKES SO MUCH SENSE THAT THE SUBSEQUENT MOONEY MODELS "J" 201, "K" 231/252/ENCORE ALL USED THIS LAYOUT.
DESIGNED FOR THE 200 HORSEPOWER LYCOMING ENGINE, WHICH PROVIDES MORE SPEED, CLIMB AND CARRYING CAPABILITY.
THIS AIRPLANE SUFFERED DAMAGE DURING AN UNFORTUNATE RUN-UP BY AN AVIONICS SHOP WHO HAD JUST DONE SOME WORK ON THE DASH.
FOR WHATEVER REASON, (MECHANICAL MALFUNCTION OR HUMAN ERROR), THE NOSE LANDING GEAR COLLAPSED WHILE THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING, FOLLOWED BY THE LEFT MAIN GEAR
YOU CAN IMAGINE THE NOISE THAT MADE !!
BOTH BLADES OF THE HARTZELL CONSTANT SPEED PROP WERE BENT, AND THE ENGINE SUSTAINED A PROP STRIKE, SO BOTH HAVE BEEN REMOVED, AND ARE NOT INCLUDED HERE.
THE DAMAGE TO THE AIRFRAME ITSELF IS SURPRISINGLY MINOR !
THE CENTER LOWER COWL HAS SOME DENTS, AND THE NOSE GEAR DOORS ARE WRINKLED OF COURSE, BUT THE FIREWALL AND INCLUDED ENGINE MOUNT DO NOT SHOW ANY OBVIOUS DAMAGE.
THE BELLY AFT OF THE FIREWALL IS ALSO NOT WRINKLED.
THE LEFT WING DAMAGE SEEMS TO BE CONFINED TO THE WRINKLE SHOWN ON THE TOP AFT SURFACE, AT THE JUNCTION BETWEEN THE FLAP AND AILERON.
THE BOTTOM SURFACE IN THIS AREA DOES NOT SEEM TO HAVE ANY DAMAGE, BUT IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THE OUTBOARD FLAP HANGER IS SLIGHTLY BENT, SO THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED THE DAMAGE.
THE LEFT FLAP MOVES AS IT SHOULD, BUT MAY HAVE A SLIGHT UPWARD BEND AS WELL.
THE AIRPLANE SUFFERED THE INDIGNITY OF BEING BLOWN OFF OF JACKS BY WIND, AFTER THE INITIAL INCIDENT, BUT THERE DOESN"T SEEM TO BE ANY ADDITIONAL DAMAGE FROM THAT (UNLESS MAYBE THE WING WRINKLE DISCUSSED ABOVE HAPPENED THEN, RATHER THAN WHILE RUNNING.)
OVERALL THIS IS A GOOD STRAIGHT AIRPLANE.
THE RIGHT SIDE WING AND SURFACES SHOW NO DAMAGE
THE TAIL FEATHERS ARE UNDAMAGED
NO DAMAGE TO THE CABIN, GLASS OR DOOR FITS
ALL 3 GEAR ITSELF APPEARS UNDAMAGED
CLEVELAND WHEELS AND BRAKES
THE SEATS ARE A VERY NICE GOLD CLOTH, IN GOOD CONDITION, AND THE INTERIOR PLASTICS, A SORE SPOT ON SOME MOONEYS, LOOKS GOOD HERE.
THE AVIONICS PANEL UNITS WERE REMOVED AFTER THE INCIDENT, AND ARE NOT INCLUDED. THE CONNECTORS AND WIRING ARE STILL INSTALLED FOR:
KING KX-155 NAV-COM AND INDICATOR,
KING KMA-24 AUDIO PANEL WITH MARKER BEACONS
KING KR-87 ADF SYSTEM
