1968 MOONEY M20C RANGER AIRFRAME, ONLY 3127 TT, EARLY GEAR RETRACTION, DAMAGED, CHEAP !!
BY 1968, MOONEY HAD MODERNIZED THE DASH OF THE M20 SERIES, TO A 6 PACK SETUP, WITH A PLEASING ARRANGEMENT, AND NEAT LOOKING WOODGRAIN PANELS.
THE EXTERIOR WAS ALSO MODERNIZED WITH THE NOW FAMILIAR SQUARE WINDOWS, AND YOU CAN SEE WHERE THE 201 CAME FROM !!
THIS AIRPLANE HAS A VERY LOW 3127 HOURS TOTAL TIME, AND IT"S ALMOST A TIME CAPSULE
WHAT ABOUT THAT RACY, TWO-TONE GREEN PAINT?
NOT MODERN, BUT MAYBE RETRO?
INSIDE, THE SEATS AND TRIM HAVE BEEN UPDATED TO A GOOD, NEUTRAL TAN, SO THAT"S BETTER.
UNFORTUNATELY, THE CORPORATE PILOT/OWNER OF THIS AIRPLANE GOT A LITTLE TOO ANXIOUS ON TAKE-OFF ONE DAY, AND RETRACTED THE LANDING GEAR BEFORE HE HAD A POSITIVE RATE OF CLIMB !!
TO HIS CHAGRIN, THE AIRCRAFT SETTLED BACK DOWN AS THE GEAR CAME UP, AND HE SKIDDED ON THE BELLY !!
AS YOU CAN SEE. THERE IS SCRAPING DAMAGE TO SEVERAL OF THE FORWARD BELLY SKINS, ALMOST ALL OF THEM BOLT ON, NOT RIVIT ON (AS THE MOONEY HAS A REINFORCED ROLL CAGE, THE BELLY PANELS ARE AERODYNAMIC, NOT STRUCTURAL, SO FOR EASY INSPECTION, THEY SIMPLY ATTACH WITH SCREWS !!
SUPER CONVENIENT IF SOME OF THEM GET SCRAPED, AS YOU CAN JUST SREW ON REPLACEMENTS !!
IT APPEARS THAT THE AIRPLANE RODE ON THE STEP FOR SOME TIME, AS THE SCRAPING TO THE BELLY SKINS SEEMS LESS THAN I NORMALLY SEE.
THE OTHER THING THAT IS NOT REALLY NORMAL IS THE SCRAPING TO THE RIGHT WING TIP LOWER, WHICH IS NOT MIRRORED ON THE LEFT SIDE.
EITHER AS A REACTION TO THE AIRCRAFTS ATTEMPTS TO GO DOWN ON THE LEFT DUE TO THE STEP HOLDING UP THE RIGHT SIDE, OR POSSIBLY A GUST OF WIND, THERE IS A SCRAPE AND SMALL TEAR TO THE RIGHT WING LOWER SKIN, A SMALL SCRAPE TO THE OUTBOARD FLAP HANGER BRACKET, AND A SMAL WRINKLE ON THE OUTBOARD TOP SKIN. ALL STRAIGHTFORWARD PATCH/STRAIGHTEN OR REPLACE.
THE STEP SUPPORT AREA, WHICH WAS TAKING SO MUCH OF THE LOAD, BUCKLED, SO THERE IS SOME WRINKLING THERE
ALL OF THE CONTROL SURFACES ARE UNDAMAGED, WITH THE LOWER AFT OF THE RIGHT AILERON ONLY HAVING A LIGHT SCRAPE, NOT REQUIRING REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT.
THE REST OF THE AIRFRAME SHOWS NO DAMAGE !!
ALL GEAR LOOKS GOOD, BUT THE NOSE GEAR DOORS ARE SCRAPED
THE FUSELAGE HAS NO OTHER DAMAGE
THE PROPELLOR WAS BENT ON BOTH BLADES, OF COURSE, SO THE 0-360 ENGINE SUFFERED A SUDDEN STOPPAGE, AND REQUIRED A PROP STRIKE INSPECTION, SO IT HAS BEEN REMOVED AT THE ENGINE MOUNT, AND THIS AIRFRAME IS BEING SOLD WITHOUT THE ENGINE OR IT"S BOLT ON ACCESSORIES
ALL OF THE HARDWARE IS STILL THERE AND INCLUDED, AND ALL CABLES WERE UNBOLTED, NOT CUT, PLANNING FOR RE-INSTALLATION. NOT A HACK JOB.
NO DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE MOUNT.

THE DASH IS COMPLETE WITH ALL LATE MODEL FLIGHT INSTRUMENTS, BUT ALL OF THE AVIONICS UNITS WERE REMOVED, TRAYS AND ALL, AND ARE NOT INCLUDED.
