1970 PIPER CHEROKEE 140, 7685 TT AIRFRAME, NO ACCIDENT OR HAIL DAMAGE, GREAT PROJECT, CHEAP!THE CHEROKEE 140 WAS PIPER’S ENTRY LEVEL AND TRAINING AIRCRAFT FOR 14 YEARS DURING THE HEYDAY OF THE 1960’S AND 1970’S.AN HONEST AIRPLANE, WITH LITTLE PRETENSE, BUT AN EASY TO FLY, CONFIDENCE BUILDING AIRPLANE THAT IS A GREAT STEPPING STONE ON YOUR WAY TO FASTER CHEROKEES!UNLIKE CESSNA, WHERE THE TRAINER WAS A VERY SMALL, 2 SEAT AIRPLANE WITH VERY LITTLE IN COMMON WITH THEIR STEP UP AIRPLANES, THE CHEROKEE 140 USES THE SAME CABIN, TAIL, BASIC WINGS, EVEN THE FRONT SEATS, WITH THE STEP-UP 180, 235 OR THE RETRACTABLE ARROW 180 AND 200!FLY A CHEROKEE 140 AND THE WHOLE CHEROKEE LINE IS EASY!AND THIS IS A SHARP LOOKING 140!COOL CUSTOM “SWISH” SCHEME IN RED WITH GOLD ACCENT STRIPE.TINTED GLASS LOOKS GOOD.ALTHOUGH THE EARLY 140’S WERE ALL 2 SEATERS WITH A FLAT PANEL BEHIND, MOST OF THE 140’S MADE AFTER 1969 WERE 4 PLACE AIRPLANES. THE REAR SEATS HAVE REGULAR SEATBELTS AND CAN BE REMOVED EASILY IF YOU WANT A FLAT LOAD FLOOR, BUT DON’T WEIGH MUCH SO ARE FINE TO LEAVE IN FULL TIME.THE BIGGEST CHANGE THAT CAN BE MADE TO A 140 IS THE INSTALLATION OF THE REAR BAGGAGE COMPARTMENT EXTENSION WITH HAT SHELF!IT PUSHES THE BAGGAGE COMPARTMENT FLOOR BACK OVER A FOOT, PLUS THE EXTRA ROOM OF THE SHELF, AND OPENS UP THE COCKPIT PRACTICALLY AND VISUALLY! THIS INTERIOR IS THE 4 SEAT VERSION WITH REAR BAGGAGE COMPARTMENT AND HAT SHELF, SEATS ARE VERY NICE WITH CONTRASTING PIPING.GOOD PLASTICS OVERALLORIGINAL BUW-TIE YOKES UPDATED TO REAL RAM’S HORN YOKES.THE 1970 CHEROKEES CAME FACTORY WITH A MODERN, WELL LAID OUT DASH WITH A 6 PACK GUAGE SETUP PLUS ROOM FOR 2 VOR INDICATORS, A CENTER STACK FOR AVIONICS WITH A 2ND STACK BESIDE IT FOR MORE. IT ALSO HAS ALL CIRCUIT BREAKERS (NO FUSES) AND LATE MODEL ROCKER SWITCHES IN A DEDICATED PANEL. THE DESIREABLE THROTTLE AND MIXTURE QUADRANT (NOT OLD PUSH-PULL CABLES), ALLOWS FOR AN EASY VISUAL INDICATION OF SETTINGS AND A BIG AIRPLANE LOOK AND FEEL.THE DASH IS CLEAN AND HAS ALL MODERN INSTRUMENTS INSTALLED.EQUIPPED WITH A KING KMA-20 AUDIO PANEL WITH MARKER BEACONS, A SIGTRONICS 4 PLACE INTERCOM AND A KING ADF SYSTEM.IN ADDITION, THE RADIOS ARE NOT INCLUDED BUT TRAYS ARE INSTALLED AND FULLY WIRED FOR DUAL KX-170B RADIOS, OR THEIR MODERN REPLACEMENT, THE MX-170 DIGITAL SERIES, AS WELL AS KING DIGITAL DME AND NARCO TRANSPONDER. OTHER UPDATES INCLUDE TAIL STROBE LIGHT AND METCO FIBERGLASS WINGTIPS (ADD A LITTLE SPEED BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY BETTER LOW SPEED CONTROL, AND THEY ALSO LOOK MUCH NICER THAN THE PLAIN ROUNDED HERSHEY BAR TIPS!IF YOU ARE LOOKING THIS AIRPLANE OVER WELL IN MY PICTURES, YOU MIGHT BE ASKING YOURSELF “WHY SO CHEAP?”. THIS AIRPLANE WAS NOT INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT OR INCIDENT, AND IN FACT IT HAS BEEN IN REGULAR USE JUST AS YOU SEE IT!THE RUDDER WAS DINGED ON THE GROUND AND REPLACED WITH A GOOD USED ONE WITH DIFFERENT STRIPS, NOT YET PAINTED TO MATCH AND THERE IS SOME PAINT MISSING ON THE HORIZONTAL STABILATOR, BUT THOSE ARE SMALL ITEMS.DURING THE LAST ANNUAL, ALL ITEMS WERE SIGNED OFF AS AIRWORTHY AND READY TO GO, 9/21/2021, EXCEPT THE RECENT A.D. THAT REQUIRES ADDING INSPECTION PLATES TO THE MAIN WING LOWER SKINS TO INSPECT THE MAIN SPAR.THIS INSPECTION FOUND CORROSION ON THE LOWER FORWARD SPAR CAP ON THE LEFT WING!THE OWNER, WHO WAS NOT LIVING NEAR THE AIRPLANE ANYMORE AND NO LONGER ABLE TO FLY PHYSICALLY SOLD THE AIRPLANE TO US RATHER THAN HAVE IT REPAIRED.THE ANNUAL IS FULLY SIGNED OFF, WITH ONLY THIS ONE DESCREPANCY!SO THE CORROSION MUST BE MITAGATED OR THE SPAR REPLACED, OR OF COURSE, THE WHOLE WING CAN BE REPLACED. (ADVERTISED AT $2,500, MINUS A GOOD CUSTOMER DISCOUNT OF $500, FOR A GOOD USED ONE)THE CONTROL SURFACES, GEAR, TIPS, AS WELL AS THE ENTIRE FUSELAGE, TAIL, FIREWALL, ETC. ARE UNDAMAGED.NOTE HOWEVER, THAT THE ENGINE WAS REMOVED (PROPERLY UNBOLTED) FROM THE UNDAMAGED MOUNT, AND IS NOT INCLUDED. A REPLACEMENT WILL NEED TO BE SOURCED.
