THIS IS A NICE, LATER MODEL B-55 BARON
OWNED AND FLOWN FOR 12 YEARS BY THE SAME CFI PILOT

DAMAGE WAS SUSTAINED TO THE AIRPLANE WHEN A CABLE ON THE BI-FOLD HANGER DOOR BROKE WHILE THE AIRPLANE WAS STILL PARTIALLY INSIDE THE HANGER
TALK ABOUT BEING IN THE WRONG PLACE AT THE WRONG TIME !!
LUCKILY THE GUY WHO HAD BEEN CLEANING THE BELLY WASNT UNDER IT AT THE TIME !!
THE DOOR STAYED ATTACHED TO IT"S UPPER HINGES, SO THE WHOLE THING DIDNT FALL OFF ONTO THE PLANE, BUT THE EDGE OF THE DOOR CAME DOWN. HARD.
THE HANGER DOOR EDGE FELL ONTO THE AFT TAILCONE OF THIS BARON FORWARD OF THE VERTICAL FIN, AND AFT OF THE BAGGAGE DOOR AND CABIN WINDOWS
AS YOU CAN SEE FROM THE PHOTOS, THE DORSAL FIN ON THE TOP IS CRUSHED AT THE IMPACT POINT, AND THERE IS A TEAR IN THE TOP SKIN IN THIS SAME AREA.
IN ADDITION, THERE IS A DENTED AREA OF THE FAR AFT LOWER TAILCONE, IN THE TIEDOWN RING AREA, WHERE THE DOOR PUSHED THE TAIL ALL THE WAY DOWN.
THIS DAMAGE IS OBVIOUS, AND IS NOT IN DISPUTE
NOW COMES THE WIERD PART
THE FORMER OWNER OF THE AIRPLANE, WHO MET ME AT THE AIRPORT LAST WEEK WHEN I TOOK THESE PHOTOS, REPORTS THAT SEVERAL AREAS ON THE AIRPLANE NOW HAVE WRINKLES THAT WERE NOT THERE BEFORE THE TAIL DAMAGE. THESE AREAS ARE:
THE BELLY, NEAR THE RIGHT REAR WING ATTACH POINT, HAS AN OBVIOUS SMALL WRINKLE (SHOWN IN PHOTO) NO DISPUTE, IT"S THERE. IT"S A LITTLE HARD TO BLAME ON THE TAIL BEING SLAMMED DOWN, BUT YOU WILL HAVE TO DECIDE. HE ASSURES ME IT IS, AND I JUST SAW THE PLANE FOR THE FIRST TIME.
THE RIGHT WING HAS AN OIL CANNED AREA INBOARD OF THE NACELLE, ON THE TOP SKIN, AFT. I TOOK A PICTURE, BUT IT DOESNT MUCH SHOW ANYTHING. THIS IS NOT A WRINKLE, BUT THE SKIN DOES EXHIBIT A VERY SHALLOW DEPRESSION
THE LARGE BAGGAGE DOOR HAS HAD THE OUTER SKIN ON THE FORWARD TOP EDGE BENT BACK SLIGHTLY, POSSIBLY FROM FORCIBLY EXTENDING OR OVER-EXTENDING IT.
THE WINDSHIELD (YES, I KNOW, THE HANGER DOOR HIT THE TAILCONE), HAS A 2"" LONG CRACK ON THE COPILOTS FRONT CORNER
THERE IS A SLIGHT OIL CANNED AREA FORWARD OF THE WINDSHIELD ON THE PILOTS SIDE (SHOWN)
THERE DOES NOT SEEM TO BE ANY OTHER VISIBLE DAMAGE TO THIS AIRPLANE.
WHEN I SUGGESTED THAT THIS APPEARED TO BE AN AIRPLANE THAT A PERSON COULD PATCH THE TAILCONE AND FLY HOME, THE OWNER PROTESTED VIGOROUSLY, SAYING THAT THERE IS NO WAY TO DETERMINE WHAT STRANGE FORCES MAY HAVE PERMEATED THE STRUCTURE, AND THAT HE TOLD THE INSURANCE COMPANY THAT IT SHOULD BE TOTALED AS NEVER BEING TRUSTWORTHY AGAIN.
NEEDLESS TO SAY, YOU SHOULD NOT PLAN ON ANY CO-OPERATION FROM HIM, OR FOR THAT MATTER ANYBODY LOCAL, TO ASSIST YOU IF YOU DID HAVE THE AUDACITY TO CONSIDER FLYING THIS AIRPLANE OUT !! I GUESS THEY ASSUME YOU WILL TRUCK IT OUT AND THEN THROW IT AWAY.
DID I MENTION THAT EVERYTHING ELSE IS UNHURT ?
