1972 GRUMMAN AA-5 TRAVELER, 4 PLACE W/CANOPY, 2,930 TTAF, NOSE DAMAGE ONLY, CHEAP!THE GRUMMAN AA-5 IS A TRUE 4 SEAT TRAINING AND TOURING AIRCRAFT.DERIVED FROM THE SMALLER 2 PLACE AA-1, THE AA-5 HAS SHOWN ITSELF TO BE A SOLID AIRPLANE, WITH GENERALLY BETTER PERFORMANCE THAN IT’S PIPER AND CESSNA CONTEMPORARIES, WITH THE ADDED PANACHE OF A 1 PIECE SLIDING CANOPY THAT CAN BE FLOWN PARTIALLY OPEN!IT IS INTERESTING TO NOTE THAT THE GRUMMAN AA-5 SERIES AIRCRAFT ARE SIMILAR IN DESIGN PHILOSOPHY TO THE CIRRUS SR-20 AIRCRAFT PRODUCED 30 YEARS LATER, WITH FULL CASTORING NOSEGEAR, SMOOTH WING AND FUSELAGE AERODYNAMICS AND UNIQUE ENTRY AND EXIT INTO THE 4 PLACE CABIN!THIS PARTICULAR LITTLE TRAVELER HAD THE TYPE OF EXCITEMENT IN THE AIR THAT MOST OF US HOPE WE WILL NEVER EXPERIENCE.WHILE ON A ROUTINE FLIGHT, THE PILOT HEARD A NOISE AND REALIZED HE HAD REDUCED ELEVATOR CONTROL. IT TURNS OUT THAT THE LEFT HORIZONTAL STABILIZER END BROKE, SO THE ELEVATOR WAS ALLOWED TO FLUTTER AND THE PILOT ONLY HAD HALF OF THE ELEVATOR EFFECTIVENESS. CONSIDERING THIS HANDICAP, THE PILOT DID AN ADMIRABLE JOB AND LANDED THE AIRPLANE ON THE RUNWAY, ALBEIT WITH A LITTLE MORE NOSE DOWN ATTITUDE THAN OPTIMAL, WHICH BENT THE NOSE GEAR TUBE BACK.THE WHEELPANT ON THE NOSEWHEEL DAMAGED THE LOWER COWLING AS IT PUSHED UP.FROM ALL INSPECTION, THE FIREWALL APPEARS TO BE UNDAMAGED, WITH JUST A VERY LIGHT DAMAGE TO THE BELLY SKIN JUST AFT OF THE FIREWALL (AGAIN, FROM THE WHEEL PANT)THE REMAINDER OF THE AIRCRAFT IS UNDAMAGED!THE ENGINE WAS OF COURSE SUBJECT TO A PROP STRIKE, SO IT HAS BEEN PROPERLY UNBOLTED FROM THE UNDAMAGED ENGINE MOUNT AND IS NOT INCLUDED HERE.THE ENTIRE AIRFRAME IS INTACT, EXCEPT FOR THE HORIZONTAL STAB PIECES AND ELEVATORS, WHICH WERE RETAINED BY THE FAA FOR FURTHER INVESTIGATION.WE WILL SUBSTITUTE USED UNITS FROM OUR STOCK FOR THE MISSING TAIL FEATHERS AT NO CHARGE, YOU PAY THE SHIPPING ONLY.AS I SAID, THE BALANCE OF THE AIRFRAME, INCLUDING THE CABIN, CANOPY, WINGS, MAIN GEAR, FLAPS, AILERONS, WINGTIPS, VERTICAL FIN AND RUDDER ARE UNDAMAGED!!THE AVIONICS AND SOME OF THE BASIC FLIGHT INSTRUMENTS HAVE BEEN REMOVED AND ARE NOT INCLUDED, BUT MOST OF THE DASH IS THERE AND ALL THERE IS FUNCTIONAL.THE FRONT BUCKET SEATS ARE IN FAIR CONDITION (THERE HAD BEEN SHEEPSKIN COVERS, NOW REMOVED AND NOT GIVEN TO US, SORRY).THIS IS A VERY EASY PROJECT, WHICH WILL MAKE A NICE FAMILY OR TRAVELING AIRPLANE WITH MOSTLY ALL BOLT ON REPAIR!THE AIRFRAME ROLLS VERY EASILY AROUND ON IT’S UNDAMAGED MAINGEAR, WITH CLEVELAND WHEELS AND BRAKES.STORED IN A STORAGE LOCKER NEAR LEESBURG VIRGINIA. WE WILL PAY THE STORAGE FEE UP TILL THE END OF DECEMBER, SO YOU HAVE TIME TO GO FETCH THIS AIRPLANE AND BRING IT HOME FOR REPAIR.SOLD WITH LOGBOOKS FOR THE AIRFRAME, (LAST ANNUAL PERFORMED 4/2020, JUST EXPIRED MAY OF 2021, NOT A SITTER).OTHER PAPERWORK INCLUDES AD COMPLIENCE SHEETS, WEIGHT AND BALANCE, THE OWNERS MANUAL, ETC.PLUS THE FAA BILL OF SALEAND THE FAA AIRWORTHINESS CERTIFICATE, GRANTED 5/6/1972!LOTS OF AIRPLANE, EASY PROJECT, CHEAP!GOOD BIDDING!
