1980 MOONEY M20J "201", ONLY 152 SINCE FACT REMAN, WING DAMAGE, NO PROP STRIKE, GREAT REBUILDABLE, CHEAP !! I DON"T THINK I COULD ADD MUCH TO THE 1,000"S OF ARTICLES AND EVEN BOOKS WRITTEN ABOUT HOW ROY LOPRESTI, THE WIZARD OF GO-FAST, TOOK THE ALREADY FAST 200 H.P. 4 PLACE M20F, AND TURNED IT INTO THE SUPER EFFICIENT AND VERY FAST "201", JUST BY CLEANING IT UP AERODYNAMICALLY, WITHOUT ADDING HORSEPOWER !! SO ALL OF THE "201"S" (OFFICIALLY M20J) ARE FAST, RESPONSIVE, GOOD LOOKING 4 PLACE CROSS-COUNTRY CRUISERS. THE "201" MONIKER, REPORTEDLY THE CRUISE SPEED, WAS NOT REALLY POSSIBLE IN THE REAL WORLD, BUT EVERY YEAR, THE FACTORY ADDED LITTLE TWEAKS AND IMPROVEMENTS, SO BY 1980, THE AIRPLANE WAS BETTER THAN AT IT"S INTRODUCTION. THE DASH IS MODERN, WITH EXCELLENT SCAN AND RADIO LAYOUT, RAM"S HORN CONTROL YOKES AND LATE MODEL INSTRUMENTATION THIS 1980 M20J HAS SOMETHING THAT ONLY A FEW 201"S CAN CLAIM, A 152 HOUR SINCE FACTORY REMANUFACTURED 200 H.P. IO-360 ENGINE WITH THE IMPROVED ROLLER ROCKERS AND CAMSHAFT !! THE "REMANUFACTURE" TERM MEANS THAT THE FACTORY REBUILT THIS ENGINE TO BE A ZERO TIME ENGINE. THERE IS NO PREVIOUS LOGBOOK, AND TIME STARTS AT ZERO !! ALL LYCOMING FACTORY REMANS IN THE LAST FEW YEARS HAVE BEEN CONVERTED TO THE NEW ROLLER ROCKER/CAM COMBINATION. THE ROLLER ROCKERS GREATLY REDUCE CAMSHAFT WEAR, PRODUCE A SMOOTHER IDLE, AND ALLOW FOR A SLIGHTLY INCREASED CAM PROFILE, FOR INCREASED PERFORMANCE. EVERYBODY WISHES THEIR LYCOMING WAS A ROLLER CAM ! THIS ENGINE WAS REMANUFACTURED 9/1/2015, AND INSTALLED IN THIS AIRPLANE 9/17/2017 !! AT THE TIME OF INSTALLATION, THE FOLLOWING NEW/OVERHAULED PARTS WERE ALSO INSTALLED ON THE AIRPLANE: OIL COOLER SKY-TEK STARTER ALTERNATOR VAC PUMP FUEL AND OIL LINES LORD MOUNTS PLUS...... AN OVERHAULED MCCAULEY PROP AND PROP GOVERNOR !! THE ENGINE, PROP, AND ACCESSORIES NOW HAVE ONLY 152 HOURS ON THEM !! BUT YOU CAN NEVER TELL WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN. THE OWNER/PILOT OF THIS AIRPLANE GOT INTO SEVERE TURBULENCE WITH HIS MOONEY, AND GOT SHOOK UP A BIT. HE LANDED THE AIRPLANE AFTERWARDS, NOT AT HIS HOME AIRPORT, TO CHILL OUT A BIT. HE HAD A MECHANIC ON THE FIELD LOOK THE AIRPLANE OVER, AND THE MECHANIC SAID EVERYTHING LOOKED OK TO HIM. WHEN THE OWNER GOT IT HOME HE ASKED HIS REGULAR SHOP TO INSPECT IT, BECAUSE THEY KNEW THE AIRPLANE FROM HAVING PERFORMED THE MOST RECENT ANNUAL (5/2016), AND THEY POINTED OUT A WRINKLE IN THE RIVIT LINE ON THE MAIN SPAR, ON BOTH SIDES (THE MOONEY USES A ONE PIECE WING) I HAVE POINTED OUT THE SMALL SKIN BUCKLE ON THE TOP OF THE RIGHT WING, INBOARD, AND THE LEFT WING TOP IS SIMILAR. THIS IS THE ONLY PHYSICAL DEFORMATION THEY COULD FIND THE INSURANCE COMPANY DIDNT WANT THIS WING TO BE RESOLD, SO THEY REQUIRED US TO CUT IT OFF OF THE FUSELAGE TO TRANSPORT IT !! OF COURSE WE HAVE DONE THIS BEFORE, ON DAMAGED WINGS, SO WE TOOK THE PROPER PRECAUTIONS (REMOVING THE AFFECTED BELLY SKINS, THE FLAPS AND THE AILERONS BEFORE WE CUT), AND WE CUT THE WING SO AS NOT TO HARM THE FUSELAGE. THE REST OF THE AIRPLANE, INCLUDING THE TAIL AND TAIL ATTACHMENTS, LOOKS VERY GOOD THE FLAPS AND AILERONS LOOK VERY GOOD THE CABIN DOOR FITS WELL AND TIGHT THERE IS NO HAIL DAMAGE, AND THE FUSELAGE AND CONTROL SURFACES ARE CLEAN THE AIRPLANE DID NOT HAVE AN "ACCIDENT", SO IT IS NOT DENTED OR SCRAPED OF COURSE NO FIREWALL OR LOWER COWLING DAMAGE THE FIBERGLASS UPPER COWL HAS SOME CRACKING (SHOWN), THAT SHOULD BE CLEANED UP FOR APPEARANCES ONLY. THE PAINT IS OVERALL GOOD, BUT IT IS NOT A MODERN SCHEME. IT MAY EVEN BE ORIGINAL, AS IT IS A SIMPLE SCHEME. WHEN YOU PUT IT BACK TOGETHER, I WOULD ADD SOME NEW "SWISH" STYLE STRIPES THE INTERIOR IS RED CLOTH, IN PRETTY GOOD SHAPE, WITH FRONT SHOULDER HARNESSES EQUIPPED WITH THE FOLLOWING AVIONICS: KING KMA-24 PUSH-BUTTON AUDIO PANEL W/MARKER BEACON KING KNS-80 DIGITAL RNAV KING KR-87 DIGITAL ADF SYSTEM KING KT-76A TRANSPONDER WITH MODE "C" ENCODER STRIKEFINDER WEATHER DETECTION SYSTEM CENTURY 21 AUTOPILOT, WITH HEADING BUG AND RADIO COUPLING 4 PLACE INTERCOM SYSTEM THIS PLANE, SIMPLY, NEEDS A WING I HAPPEN TO HAVE A 1975 M20F WING, WHICH IS THE SAME AS THE 201, THAT HAS DAMAGE TO THE OUTBOARD 5"2" (THIS IS OUTBOARD OF THE MAIN CARRY-THROUGH SPAR, AND OUTBOARD OF THE STRINGERS THAT GO FROM THE MIDDLE BAY TO THE INBOARD BAY) SINCE THE CUT-OFF PORTIONS OF THE ORIGINAL WINGS FROM THIS AIRPLANE (DAMAGED INBOARD, NOT OUTBOARD) ARE INCLUDED, IT WOULD APPEAR THAT A GOOD REPAIR SHOP WOULD HAVE ALL OF THE PARTS REQUIRED TO "MAKE" A WING FOR THIS AIRPLANE. !! WE WILL INCLUDE THIS REPAIRABLE WING WITH THE AIRPLANE IF YOU USE THE BUY IT NOW !! OR, OF COURSE, IF YOU HAVE OR KNOW OF A GOOD READY TO BOLT ON WING, THAT MIGHT BE A BETTER CHOICE. IN FACT, SOMEONE WHO KNOWS OF THIS WING WILL WANT TO HIT THE BUY IT NOW RIGHT AWAY, BECAUSE THIS AIRPLANE WILL MAKE SOMEONE THE OWNER OF THE CHEAPEST NICE 201 ON THE PLANET, WITH A FRESH ENGINE AND PROP !! LOCATED IN A HANGER AT OUR LAKEVILLE AIRPORT LOCATION (KLVN), JUST SOUTH OF MINNEAPOLIS. MN. WE WILL ALLOW FOR FREE STORAGE FOR 30 DAYS FROM THE END OF THE AUCTION, THEN $8 PER DAY IF YOU NEED IT IN THEIR LONGER. SOLD WITH AIRFRAME AND PROPELLOR LOGS SINCE NEW (WITH 9/2015 OVERHAUL RECORDED IN PROP LOG, AND LYCOMING ENGINE LOG SINCE 9/2015 ZERO TIME !! THE FAA WILL REQUIRE PICTURES OF THE COMPLETED AIRCRAFT TO REINSTATE THE REGISTRATION, SO BE AWARE THAT YOU WILL NEED TO PROVIDE SOME EVIDENCE THAT THE AIRPLANE WAS NOT "SCRAPPED" IN ORDER TO PROCESS THE PAPERWORK.
