The Yak-52, like most Soviet military aircraft, was designed to operate in rugged environments with minimal maintenance, most of the systems or pneumatic operated, no hydraulic. And with its tandem seating giving both the pilot and copilot that fighter look and feel.
Upon landing at its home base in Torrance California the aircraft suffered a hard landing on its nose which resulte in the nose gear folding back. This Yak 52 came to rest with its mains down but nose gear retracted. Damage consists to the lower cowl, nose gear, propeller, and the two bottom cylinders. As this type of aircraft is still being produced parts are easily available. The engine has been removed and is being stored inside. Engine: Aerostar MP-14P S/N RA932018 TT: 531
