1985 CESSNA 172P AIRFRAME, HIGH TT, NO REAL DAMAGE TO THE AIRFRAME EXCEPT MINOR TO ONE WING, READY FOR PAINT AND 180 H.P.
THE 172 HAS EVOLVED MANY TIMES OVER IT"S PRODUCTION LIFETIME, WHICH STARTED IN 1956.
UNTIL THE REBOOT OF THE LINE IN 1997, THE "P" MODEL WAS THE PINNACLE OF 172 PRODUCTION, THE VOLUME MODEL BUILT UNTIL THE END OF 1980"S PRODUCTION.
THE P MODEL HAS ALL OF THE ADVANCEMENTS AND REFINEMENTS ADDED OVER THE PREVIOUS 25 YEARS, AND IS A GREAT BIRD.
SO GREAT IN FACT, THAT THE "R" AND "S" MODELS STILL IN CURRENT PRODUCTION USE MOSTLY THE SAME FUSELAGE, DOORS, TAIL AND TAIL FEATHERS, CONTROL SURFACES, GEAR, ETC. AS THE "P"
THIS AIRPLANE WAS USED IN A FLIGHT SCHOOL IN TEXAS, AND HAS ACCUMULATED 21,341 HOURS TOTAL TIME.CRAZY GOOD MAINTANENCE, WITH REAMS OF PAPERWORK !!
DURING THE ANNUAL INSPECTION IN 2012, IT WAS OBSERVED THAT THE FLAP TRACK ON THE LEFT WING INBOARD FLAP TRACK WAS BENT.
THE DIAGNOSIS WAS THAT THE FLAPS HAD BEEN EXTENDED AT A SPEED HIGHER THAN THE WHITE ARC, WHICH BENT THE TRACK.
THE FLIGHT SCHOOL TOOK THE AIRPLANE OUT OF THE ANNUAL, AND LET IT SIT.
AT SOME POINT THE BENT FLAP TRACK WAS UNBOLTED FROM THE WING, BUT NO FURTHER WORK WAS DONE (THE TRAILING EDGE IN THAT AREA IS STILL OPENED UP.
NO DAMAGE TO THE SPAR HAS BEEN FOUND, EVEN AFTER REPEATED INSPECTIONS, BUT AFTER SOME TIME THE FLIGHT SCHOOL SUBMITTED THE DAMAGE AS AN INSURANCE CLAIM, SAYING THAT THE AIRPLANE HAD BEEN OPERATED OUTSIDE IT"S DESIGN LIMITS, AND THEREFORE REQUIRED A COMPLETE TEARDOWN.
FOR SOME REASON, THE INSURANCE ADJUSTER ALLOWED THIS RIDICULOUS EXCUSE, AND TOTALED THE AIRPLANE IN LATE 2016.
OVER A FLAP TRACK !!
THE ONLY APPARENT DAMAGE TO THE FLAP IS TO THE FLAP TRACK!!!!
NO DAMAGE THAT CAN BE SEEN ON THE WING. WE HAVE LOOKED.
THE OTHER WING, FLAP AND SPAR ARE ALSO OK !!
BUT BY NOW, THE PAINT IS FLAKING OFF FROM BAKING IN THE CENTRAL TEXAS SUN. (IT"S POSSIBLE THAT IT"S REALLY JUST A POORLY APPLIED PAINT JOB, WHICH IS NOW FLAKING, BUT US NORTHERNERS BLAME EVERYTHING ON THAT WICKED SUN DOWN SOUTH)
THIS AIRPLANE WAS NOT INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT OR INCIDENT.
NO REPORT OF THE FLAP TRACK DAMAGE IN THE LOGBOOKS !!
NO OTHER AIRFRAME DAMAGE AT ALL !!
THE FUEL TANK AND COVER WERE REMOVED FOR INSPECTION, BUT ARE INCLUDED
THE WHOLE AIRFRAME, FROM UNDAMAGED COWLINGS TO UNDAMAGED TAILCONE, IS COMPLETE AND INCLUDED.
THE ENGINE HAS BEEN REMOVED, AND IS NOT INCLUDED, BUT IT WAS UNBOLTED, NOT CUT OUT, SO CONTROL CABLES, ELECTRICAL, ETC., AS WELL AS THE UNDAMAGED ENGINE MOUNT ARE INCLUDED.
ALL OF THE LANDING GEAR IS INCLUDED, AND THERE ARE BAGS AND BOXES OF HARDWARE AND FAIRINGS IN THE BAGGAGE COMPARTMENT.
THE SEATS ARE IN GOOD SHAPE, AND THE PILOTS SIDE IS THE ARTICULATING "INFINITE ADJUSTABLE " VERSION
THE DASH PANELS, SWITCHES, AND ALL OF THE ENGINE INSTRUMENTATION IS STILL MOUNTED AND INCLUDED, BUT THE FLIGHT INSTRUMENTS HAVE BEEN REMOVED, AND ARE NOT INCLUDED. THIS MIGHT BE THE PERFECT APPLICATION FOR A G5 OR ASPEN.
THIS AIRPLANE IS THE PERFECT 180 H.P. UPGRADE CANDIDATE !!
YOU CAN BUY IT FOR FAR LESS THAN A FLYING AIRPLANE, STRIP IT AND PAINT IT IN A MODERN SCHEME, ADD THE 180 H.P. LYCOMING (IT BOLTS RIGHT UP) OR GO BACK WITH THE ORIGINAL 160 H.P. IF YOU WANT IT ONLY FOR A FLIGHT SCHOOL.
