First off I bought this airplane with the intentions of learning to fly it but never did.
I purchased the aircraft 16 months ago from a gentleman in south Georgia USA.
I paid a pretty penny for it because of the major overhaul on wings, avionics, and low hours on engine.
The engine is a rotax 503 with electric start working in combination with a tennessee wood propellar.I am a unlicensed pilot. I have had dreams of becoming a commercial pilot and thought this plane would help gain hours cheaply and have lots of fun.
I have full building logs with maintenance and record books. Tons and tons of receipts.
This aircraft was at one time N numbered but currently not stickered.
These Kolb airplanes have impressive take off, landing, and performance numbers. They are built strong and I havent read any reports of airframes breaking while in flight. They seam very capable if you as a pilot is capable. They can be operated as a lsa. I wanted the safety of brakes, and the utility of a back seat so decided on a firestar II instead of a pure ultralight. The tennessee props seamed to have the best book performance numbers so I went with it. I installed the prop and the plane is running great. I am not a certified mechanic but have lots of 2 stroke racing and mechanical dirtbike experience. I taxi it around my back yard a little but still dont have the courage to fly it. It is turn key and has fresh gas and runs smooth great.About 2 weeks ago I repainted the body and stripe configuration. I like the grey and black stripes much better. I have a trailer with built in ramps and can be easily loaded by 2 people. I have pulled loaded at a little over 60mph with no issues. It would be easy for one person to load with the addition of a winch. Airplane is for sale locally call or email with questions 5024320756
Wings, rudder, elevator, stabilizer and aeleron cloth looks like nearly new condition but have a few holes patched I would say 9.5 out of 10 . I have a professional cloth repair kit that will come with purchase of the plane. The body cloth I believe is original. Its condition I would say is 8.5 out of 10. The engine was bought new from Rotax Rick 1/25/12 for $3200 . Installed 3/4/12. I have heard that the 503 is the most reliable 2 stroke.2 bing 54 carbs gearbox and instruments purchased 1/26/12 $2400 from aircraft sprucefuel pump $75 brakes purchased 3/19/12 for $600 tires heavy duty tundra lawn mower tires. They seam stronger and safer to me. I just installed slime tubes in them.Wing recovering 4/20/12 $28004/15/14 after 30 hrs tt on engine changed all fuel lines, fuel pump, plugs, and gear box oil. I purchased 6/15/14 with and engine time of 37 hours tt and maybe ran for 15 minutes since purchase.
