THE AMD IS AN AMERICAN FACTORY BUILT LIGHT SPORT AIRCRAFT, BASED ON THE ZENITH CH-601XL THIS IS NOT A KIT, BUT A FACTORY BUILT VERSION !! TOTAL AIRFRAME TIME IS 288 SNEW. THIS AIRPLANE APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN A FACTORY DEMO, OR FACTORYDEVELOPMENT AIRPLANE, AS IT HAS DESIREABLE OPTIONS AND FEATURES NOT FOUND IN THE STANDARD AMD AIRPLANES, AND CERTAINLY NOT IN THE KIT CH601XL. FIRST AND FOREMOST, THIS AIRPLANE HAS BEEN MODIFIED WITH THE ADDITION OF A BRS (BALLISTIC RECOVERY SYSTEMS) WHOLE AIRFRAME PARACHUTE SYSTEM (JUST LIKE THE CIRRUS PRODUCTION AIRPLANES) !! A BRS-6-1350 SYSTEM WAS INSTALLED 3/2007. THIS IS A $5,400 NEW, BUT IT HAS A 6 YEAR REPACK CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENT. THE SYSTEM IN THIS AIRPLANE WAS RECERTIFIED 7/15/2014, AND THEREFORE THE CERTIFICATION IS GOOD UNTIL JULY OF 2020. ANOTHER COOL ADDITION TO THIS AIRPLANE IS THE AMSAFE SEATBELT MOUNTED AIRBAG SYSTEM !! THIS IS THE SAME SYSTEM INSTALLED IN NEWER CESSNA, MOONEY, BEECHCRAFT AND CIRRUS PRODUCTION AIRCRAFT !! BOTH OF THE TOP SAFETY FEATURES IN ONE AIRPLANE !! NOW THE CH601XL HOMEBUILT AIRPLANES HAD SOME BAD PRESS IN THE 2007-2009 TIMEFRAME, WHERE A FEW AIRPLANES APPEARED TO SUFFER FROM FLUTTER, AND THEY CRASHED. AS A RESULT, THE FAA GROUNDED THE AIRPLANES UNTIL THE MANUFACTURER CAME UP WITH A WING BEEF UP KIT. THE HOMEBUILDERS WHO WANTED TO COULD INSTALL THIS KIT (SOME DIDN’T), BUT THIS FACTORY BUILT AIRCRAFT HAD THE MOD DONE PROFESSIONALLY, AT THE FACTORY, TO THE TUNE OF $5,750 !! TO BE CLEAR, THIS AIRCRAFT HAS THE BEEF UP KIT ADDED, AT THE FACTORY !! SO THIS AIRPLANE HAS BEEN UPGRADED AND UPDATED, BUT IT WAS NOT DESIGNED OR BUILT TO HOLD UP A HANGER DOOR !! DURING A HIGH WIND EVENT, THE BIFOLD DOOR ON THE HANGER THIS AIRPLANE WAS STORED IN PARTIALLY CAME OFF THE TRACK, AND IT FELL ON THIS AIRPLANE, JUST AFT OF THE COWLING, AND FORWARD OF THE TIP UP CANOPY ! AS YOU CAN IMAGINE, THE WEIGHT DAMAGED THE TOP OF THE BOOTCOWL, WHICH IS A BOLT ON SKIN, AS WELL AS PUT PRESSURE ON THE NOSEWHEEL STRUT, WHICH BENT, AND THE FIREWALL, WHICH GOT PUSHED BACK. THE FIBERGLASS UPPER AND LOWER COWL WERE MOSTLY SPARED, BUT AS THEY ATTACH TO THE FIREWALL, WHICH WAS DAMAGED, THERE IS SOME REPAIRABLE FIBERGLASS CRACKING. THE DAMAGE IS ALMOST EXCLUSIVELY TO THE FIREWALL AREA, INCLUDING THE FIRST SKIN ON THE BELLY, WITH VERY LITTLE DAMAGE TO THE FORWARD SIDE SKINS, AND NONE FARTHER BACK AT ALL. SHARP EYED BUYERS WILL SEE THE SLIGHT WRINKLING ON THE TAILCONE, AFT OF THE CANOPY. THIS IS FROM THE FIRST PEOPLE WHO DISASSEMBLED THE AIRPLANE, WHO PUT THE WRINKLE IN THIS AREA BY OVER-TIGHTENING THE TIE-DOWN STRAP, NOT FROM THE HANGER DOOR. THERE IS NO DOOR RELATED DAMAGE AFT OF THE CHIP IN THE LEADING EDGE OF THE CANOPY GLASS. THE FUSELAGE SIDE SKINS AND BELLY ARE STRAIGHT. THERE IS NO DAMAGE TO THE MAIN GEAR, OR THE WHEELS WITH DISC BRAKES THERE IS NO DAMAGE TO THE TAIL OR TAIL FEATHERS THE BRS PARACHUTE SYSTEM AND THE AMSAFE SEATBELT AIRBAG SYSTEMS ARE INTACT THE WINGS HAVE NO DAMAGE FROM THE DOOR, AND THE STROBE LIGHTS ARE INTACT AND UNBROKEN (AND THE WHELEN STROBE POWER SUPPLY IS UNDAMAGED AND INCLUDED), BUT THE XXXX WING HAS A DENT RIGHT NEAR THE TIP AND THE LANDING LIGHT LENS IS CRACKED(FROM ROUGH HANDLING, NOT THE DOOR). AS YOU CAN SEE, THE ENGINE HAS BEEN UNBOLTED FROM THE MOUNT, AND THE RADIOS HAVE BEEN REMOVED FROM THE DASH, AND ALL ARE NOT INCLUDED. YOU WILL BE ABLE TO SOURCE YOUR CHOICE OF BOTH.
