THE OWNER/BUILDER/PILOT OF THIS COMPOSITE SPEEDSTER WAS OUT FOR A FUN DAY OF FLYING WHEN HIS ENGINE BLEW UP !!
YEP, A ROD THROWN RIGHT THROUGH THE CASE !!
UNFORTUNATELY, THERE WASN"T A RUNWAY WITHIN GLIDING DISTANCE, SO HE TOOK A ROAD. AFTER TOUCHDOWN, AS HE SWERVED TO AVOID A SIGN, HE ENDED UP IN A DITCH. THE GOOD NEWS, OF COURSE, IS THAT HE IS OK !!
THE AIRPLANE, NATURALLY, SUSTAINED DAMAGE
BOTH FIBERGLASS MAIN GEAR LEGS SUSTAINED DAMAGE, AND WERE CUT OFF. THE 5"CLEVELAND WHEELS AND BRAKES AND AXLES LOOK GOOD
THE FIBERGLASS LOWER COWL SUSTAINED DAMAGE. THE UPPER HAS ONLLY A FEW SMALL CRACKS.
THE FIREWALL AND FORWARD FUSELAGE, HOWEVER, LOOK GREAT !!
THE NOSEGEAR TUBE SNAPPED OFF, BUT THE ENGINE MOUNT ITSELF LOOKS GOOD
BOTH WINGS WERE CUT OFF AT THE ROOT FOR TRANSPORTATION. I"M SORRY IT HAPPENED TOO, BUT IT DID AND I CAN"T CHANGE IT.
THE RIGHT WINGTIP IS CRACKED, REPAIRABLE, WHILE THE LEFT IS GOOD
BOTH AILERONS AND FLAPS LOOK GOOD
THE VERTICAL AND RUDDER LOOK GOOD, AS THE AIRPLANE DID NOT FLIP OVER.
THAT FACT ALSO PROTECTED THE MAIN FUSELAGE, WINDOWS AND COOL FLIP UP DOORS, WHICH ARE ALL GOOD
THE RIGHT HORIZONTAL AND ELEVATOR ARE GOOD, BUT THE LET WAS CUT ON THE ENDS, AGAIN FOR TRANSPORTATION
THE ENGINE WAAS REMOVED FROM THE MOUNT AS IT WAS BLOWN, AND IS NOT INCLUDED. STILL INCLUDED ARE THE 3 VERNIER CONTROL CABLES AND FIREWALL MOUNTED ELECTRICAL ITEMS
INSIDE, THE SEAT UPHOLSTERY IS TATTERED, BUT THE SHOULDER HARNESS SEATBELTS ARE INTACT.
THE DASH HAS LOTS OF INSTRUMENTATION STILL INSTALLED, INCLUDING:
