2014 VAN’S RV-12, E-LSA, 1062 SNEW, NICE INTERIOR, HIT SOME SLUSH, CHEAP!!THE RV-12 IS THE LSA (LIGHT SPORT AIRCRAFT) MODEL IN THE VAN’S LINE-UP!SAME 2 PLACE SIDE BY SIDE, LOW WING TRICYCLE GEAR LAYOUT, MADE FROM ALUMINUM,BUT DESIGNED FOR THE LIGHT SPORT MARKET (EASIER, LESS INTENSE FLIGHT TRAINING REQUIREMENTS, MORE “FUN FLYING”)TO THIS END, THE RV-12 IS THE ONLY RV WITH EASY TO REMOVE WINGS (5 MINUTES PER SIDE, TOPS), HAS THE SMALLEST ENGINE OF ANY RV (THE 100 H.P. ROTAX 912S, SUPER POPULAR IN OTHER MAKES AND MODELS), WITH THE EASIEST TO ASSEMBLE KIT (MANY RIVITS ARE BLIND, OR “POP” RIVITS, EASIER TO INSTALL CORRECTLY BY A LESS EXPERIENCED BUILDER.)VERY PRETTY OUTSIDE BUT DOWNRIGHT DROP DEAD GORGEOUS INSIDE, I LOVE THE MEDIUM GREY SEATS WITH THE RED INSERTS AND RV-12 STITCHED INTO THE SEATBACKS.COLOR COORDINATED FULL SHOULDER HARNESSES FOR SAFETY, OF COURSE THIS AIRPLANE WAS ASSEMBLED IN 2014, AND WITH 1,062 HOURS SINCE THEN, THIS PILOT/BUILDER USED IT ALL THE TIME!!BASED IN THE BLACK HILLS OF SOUTH DAKOTA, SOME OF THE DAYS HE CONSIDERED NORMAL WOULD MAKE YOU SHIVER.ON ONE OF THOSE DAYS, HE TOOK OFF FOR A LITTLE HOP, EVEN THOUGH THE RUNWAY HAD NOT BEEN CLEARED FROM THE OVERNIGHT SNOWFALL. IT WAS A CLEAR SUNNY MORNING, AND MOST OF THE SNOW APPEARED MELTED.BUT SOME HAD JUST TURNED TO SLUSH, AND PARTWAY DOWN THE RUNWAY THE SLUSH STARTED TO YAW HIM, AND CAUSED ENOUGH SIDE TO SIDE MOVEMENT SO THAT FIRST ONE, THEN THE OTHER WINGTIPS HIT THE GROUND, FOLLOWED BY A SLIDE OFF THE SIDE OF THE RUNWAY, WHERE THE NOSEGEAR HIT A SNOWBANK AND FOLDED BACKWARD.AS YOU CAN IMAGINE, THERE IS DAMAGE AS A RESULT !!BOTH BOLT ON WINGTIPS AND TH OUTBOARD LEADING EDGE WING SKINS HAVE WRINKLING.THE NOSEGEAR TUBE BROKE AWAY FROM ITS MOUNT ON THE FIREWALL, AND THE LOWER FIREWALL SKIN AND ADJACENT BELLY SKINS ARE WRINKLED. THERE IS A SMAL HOLE IN THE BELLY FROM THE NOSE WHEELPANT.THERE ARE DENTS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE FUSELAGE WHERE THE INBOARD EDGES OF THE FLAPS PUSHED INTO THEM, WHICH WRINKLED THE INBOARD SKIN OF EACH FLAP AS WELL.THE FIBERGLASS LOWER COWL IS HEAVILY DAMAGED, BUT THE UPPER HAS ONLY SOME MISSING PAINT.THE BALANCE OF THE AIRFRAME, INCLUDING THE CABIN, AFT TAILCONE AND TAIL FEATHERS IS UNDAMAGED.THERE IS NO DAMAGE TO THE MAIN GEAR LEGS, THE WHEELS AND BRAKES OR THE MAIN WHEELPANTS.THE CANOPY HAS SCRATHES ON EACH SIDE FROM TRANSPORTATION AFTER THE INCIDENT, NOT DURING.INSIDE, THE DUAL CONTROL STICKS, DUAL RUDDER PEDAL AND BRAKE SETS AND CENTRALIZED ENGINE CONTROLS (ALLOWS FOR EITHER FRONT SEAT TO BE THE PILOT) ARE INTACT AND UNDAMAGED.AS YOU CAN SEE, THE ENGINE, A ROTAX 912ULS, HAS BEEN UNBOLTED AND IS NOT INCLUDED. THIS ENGINE HAD OF COURSE RECEIVED A PROP STRIKE DURING THIS INCIDENT.LUCKILY THE 912 SERIES ENGINES ARE VERY POPULAR AND PLENTIFUL, ON THE USED MARKET OR READILY AVAILABLE NEW, SO WHEN YOU HAVE MADE THE AIRFRAME REPAIRS, THEN YOU SPRING FOR THE ENGINE!ALL SWITCHGEAR AND CIRCUIT PROTECTION IS INTACT, BUT ONLY BASIC ROUND GAUGES, SO YOU ARE FREE TO BUY THE LATEST GENERATION OF GLASS PANELS, INSTALL ROUND GUAGES, OR MOUNT AN IPAD IN THE DASH!!THIS AIRPLANE IS LOCATED AT OUR MAIN LOCATION AT THE CRYSTAL MINNESOTA AIRPORT (KMIC), JUST NORTH OF MINNEAPOLIS.WE WILL STORE THE AIRPLANE FOR 30 DAYS AT NO CHARGE, THEN $7 PER DAY THEREAFTER IF YOU NEED MORE TIME.SOLD WITH LOGBOOK SINCE NEW, FAA BILL OF SALE AND FAA AIRWORTHINESS CERTIFICATE, SO YOU ARE SIMPLY REPAIRING THIS APPROVED AIRPLANE, NOT BUILDING IT!AS ANY HOMEBUILDER KNOWS, THE BIG PARTS ARE THE FUNNEST TO BUILD, WHILE THE DETAILS (MOUNTING THE RUDDER PEDALS, RUNNING THE WIRES TO THE CIRCUIT BREAKERS, FITTING THE INTERIOR, ETC., ETC., ETC.) TAKE THE MOST TIME.OH YEAH, ALL THAT HAS ALREADY BEEN DONE ON THIS AIRPLANE !!IT LOOKS LIKE AN AIRPLANE ALREADY, NOT AN ERECTOR SET OF FLAT ALUMINUM SKINS THAT TAKES 3 DAYS JUST TO INVENTORY!!YOU CAN SIT IN THE NICE INTERIOR ON DAY ONE, MOVE THE STICKS, PUSH THE PEDALS AND MAKE ZOOMY NOISES UNTIL YOU GET IT REPAIRED AND FLYING !!THEY SAY THAT YOU CAN’T WIPE THE “RV GRIN” OFF YOUR FACE.THIS IS BY FAR THE CHEAPEST WAY TO EVER GET THAT GRIN !!GOOD BIDDING!
