2014 ZENITH 601XL(B), 66 SNEW, WYNNE CORVAIR 100H.P. 92 S/BUILD, FLIPPED AFTER HARD LANDING, CHEAP!!THE ZENITH 601XL IS THE SLIGHTLY LARGER, NEWER VERSION OF THE ORIGINAL 601. THEY ARE 2 PLACE, SIDE BY SIDE LOW WING AIRPLANES WITH TRICYCLE LANDING GEAR.SOLD IN A KIT, THE 601XL AND IT’S HIGH WING SIBLINGS THE 701 AND 750, ARE WELL KNOW AS EASY TO ASSEMBLE (POP RIVITED CONSTRUCTION) EXPERIMENTAL AIRPLANES.THE 601 AND 601XL WERE INVOLVED IN SOME CONTROVERSY WHEN SEVERAL EXAMPLES EXHIBITED FLUTTER JUST BEFORE CRASHING. AS A RESULT, THE FACTORY DESIGNED A BEEF UP KIT FOR SOME CRITICAL AREAS. THIS KIT HAS THOSE BEEF UPS, HENCE THE “B” DESIGNATION.THIS AIRCRAFT HAS ONLY 66 HOURS SINCE NEW!THE ENGINE INSTALLED HERE IS THE CORVAIR 2700 CC, 100 H.P. ENGINE, AS BUILT FOR AIRCRAFT USE BY WYNNE, THE NUMBER 1 NAME IN CORVAIR FOR AVIATION.THIS ENGINE HAS ONLY 92 HOURS SINCE WYNNE REMANUFACTURE!THIS AIRPLANE SUFFERED DAMAGE IN 2 WAYS !!A HARDER THAN HE WANTED LANDING CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE NOSE GEAR TUBE AND FORK, AND WRINKLING IN THE CENTER SECTION OF THE FUSELAGE AND FORWARD LOWER FUSELAGE, AS WELL AS DAMAGE TO THE LEFT WING UNDERSIDE LEADING EDGE.WHILE IT WAS IN THE FIELD DAMAGED, NOT TIED DOWN, A GUST OF WIND FLIPED THE AIRPLANE ONTO IT’S TAIL, WHICH DAMAGED THE RUDDER AND BROKE THE CANOPY GLASS.THE COMPOSITE PROPELLOR WAS BROKEN ON 1 BLADE, BUT THE ENGINE SHOWS NO PHYSICAL DAMAGE.THESE ENGINES SELL FRESHLY OVERHAULED FOR OVER $10,000, AND THIS ENGINE HAS ONLY 92 HOURS SINCE OVERHAUL!THE SEATS ARE STAINED FROM SOMEONE PUTTING PARTS ON THEM AFTER THE INCIDENT, BUT THE DASH IS VERY CLEAN, AND COMES COMPLETE WITH ALL ENGINE AND BASIC FLIGHT INSTRUMENTATION, AS WELL AS A DUAL YOKE, RUDDER PEDALS, ETC.THE HORIZONTAL STABILATOR IS STRAIGHT, WITH ONLY 1 FIBERGLASS TIP DAMAGED.THE FIREWALL APPEARS STRAIGHT, AND THE ENGINE IS FULLY INSTALLED WITH ALL REQUIRED HOSES, LINES AND CABLESTHE MAIN GEAR HOOP, ALONG WITH THE CLEVELAND WHEELS AND BRAKES AND THE NOSEWHEEL ALL LOOK GOOD.THE FIBERGLASS NOSEBOWLS LOOK OK, WITH WRINKLES ON SOME OF THE METAL COWLING PANELS.STROBES AND NAV LIGHT ASSEMBLIES AND POWER SUPPY ARE INTACT.LOGBOOKS ARE COMPLETE BACK TO THE BEGINNING, AND THE AIRWORTHINESS CERTIFICATE AND FAA BILL OF SALE ARE INCLUDED.THIS AIRPLANE, WITH IT’S SIMPLE CONSTRUCTION AND GREAT PARTS AVAILABILITY IS CERTAINLY REPAIRABLE, AND WOULD TAKE ONLY A FRACTION OF THE TIME TO REPAIR OR REPLACE ONLY THE DAMAGED COMPONANTS AS WHAT IT TOOK TO BUILD THE WHOLE AIRPLANE!!OR USE IT AS A DONOR FOR IT’S LOW-TIME AMERICAN 100 H.P.
