76 LAKE LA-4-200 BUCCANEER, AMPHIBIAN,ONLY 695 TT SNEW, SOME LEFT WING AND LITE FUSELAGE DAMAGE, CHEAP !!THE LAKE BUCCANEEER IS A 4 PLACE PRODUCTION AMPHIBIAN, WITH RETRACTABLE HEAVY DUTY GEAR, A FULL SIZED CABIN, AND EXCELLENT HANDLING CHARACTERISTICS, BOTH IN THE WATER AND IN THE AIR!UNLIKE FLOATPLANES, WHICH ARE JUST LANDPLANES THAT YOU STRAP 2 MORE “FUSELAGE SIZED” LOGS ONTO, DOUBLING YOUR DRAG AND REDUCING YOUR SPEED AND YOUR HAULING ABILITY, THE AMPHIBIAN FLOATS ON IT’S FUSELAGE, SO IT HAS FAR REDUCED WEIGHT, A STREAMLINED SHAPE AND SITS LOWER, MAKING INGRESS AND EGRESS FAR EASIER (NO LADDERS).THE LAKE IS THE HIGHEST VOLUME PRODUCTION NON-MILITARY AIRPLANE EVER, AND IT WASPRODUCED FROM 1960 THROUGH 1990 AS AN LA-4, THEN STRECHED TO THE RENEGADE AND SEAFURY IN THE 1990’S.THIS AIRPLANE HAS A DOCUMENTED 695 HOURS TOTAL TIME SINCE BRAND NEW !!I WOULD SUSPECT THAT MAKES THIS THE LOWEST TIME RENEGADE IN THE WORLD !!THE AIRPLANE WAS DAMAGED IN 1988, AND SAT IN A HANGER IN NEVADA UNTIL IT WAS REPAIRED AND REFURBISHED IN 2001. ALL LOGS SINCE NEW FOR THE AIRFRAME ARE INCLUDED.ANNUALLED EVERY YEAR AND FLOWN 400 HOURS SINCE 2001.THIS AIRPLANE SUFFERED DAMAGE WHEN THE PILOT MADE A HIGH SPEED TURN WHILE WATER TAXIING FOR TAKE-OFF,TO TRY TO AVOID A LOG IN THE WATER AHEAD.IT DIDN’T WORK!THE AIRPLANE TURNED LEFT TO AVOID THE LOG, AT TOO HIGH OF A SPEED, AND THE LEFT SPONSON, OR OUTBOARD FLOAT, WHICH IS OUT OF THE WATER DURING HIGH SPEED TAXI, HIT THE WATER HARD, HARD ENOUGH TO WRINKLE THAT SPONSON SLIGHTLY.THE PILOT REACTED BY TURNING HARD RIGHT, TOO HARD.THE HULL HIT THE LOG ANYWAY, THE RIGHT SPONSON WAS HEAVILY DAMAGED, AND THE OUTBOARD RIGHT WING AND AILERON WERE DAMAGED.THE LOG PUT A DENT IN THE HULL MIDWAY BACK, WHICH ALSO CAUSED A CRACK IN THE HULL. NOT A GREAT THING ON A “BOAT”LUCKILY, THE PLANE SETTLED INTO THE WATER, BUT DUE TO THE COMPARTMENTALIZED CONSTRUCTION OF THE HULL AND THE FLOATATION PROVIDED BY THE DAMAGED BUT STILL INTACT SPONSONS, THE PLANE DID NOT SINK !!!!!THE DESCRIPTION I GOT SAID THAT THE BELLY HAD FRESH WATER IN IT (THE INCIDENT HAPPENED IN OKLAHOMA)QUITE OBVIOUSLY, THE AIRPLANE DIDN’T SETTLE VERY FAR, BECAUSE THE ENTIRE INSTRUMENT PANEL DID NOT GET WET, AND EVEN THE SEATS, WHICH SIT QUITE LOW, DO NOT SHOW ANY ISSUES. REMEMBER, FRESH WATER, IF DRIED QUICKLY, DOES NOT HAVE THE LASTING CORROSIVE EFFECTS THAT SALT WATER DOES !! ALL 3 RETRACTABLE LANDING GEAR, WHICH WERE UP IN THE WELLS AT THE TIME, ARE COMPLETELY UNDAMAGED.THE WHEELS AND BRAKES HAVE BEEN UPDATED TO THE DESIREABLE CLEVELAND MODELSTHE LEFT WING, FLAP AND AILERON DO NOT SHOW ANY DAMAGE. THERE IS WRINKLING TO THE SPONSON(SHOWN), WHICH BOLTS TO THE WING, BUT NO DAMAGE TO THE WING STRUCTURE IS APPARENT.THE HORIZONTAL STABILIZERS AND ELEVATORS ARE UNDAMAGED.THE RUDDER AND VERTICAL FIN ARE UNDAMAGEDAS YOU CAN SEE IN THE PHOTOS, THE 200 H.P. LYCOMING ENGINE HAS BEEN UNBOLTED FROM THE UNDAMAGED MOUNT, AND THE ENGINE AND PROP AND BOLT-ON ITEMS ARE NOT INCLUDED.200 H.P. ENGINES ARE PLENTIFUL, AND LYCOMING NOW MAKES 210 AND 215 H.P. PRODUCTION ENGINES THAT WOULD FIT HERE (BIGGER BORE SIZE, NO DIFFERENCE IN WEIGHT OR SIZE), AND WHO WOULDN’T LIKE MORE POWER ?2 BLADE HARTZELL PUSHER PROPS ARE AVAILABLE INEXPENSIVELY USED, FROM US OR OTHERS, OR ADD A 3 BLADE FOR BETTER CLIMB AND A SHORTER WATER RUN.IF THESE AIRPLANES WERE BEING BUILT TODAY THEY WOULD HAVE A 215 H.P. 4 CYLINDER AND A CARBON 3 BLADE PROP AND THEY WOULD REALLY PERFORM !!THE COWLINGS AND NOSE BOWL ARE UNDAMAGED AND INCLUDED.THE 2 TONE 4 PLACE INTERIOR IS IN GOOD CONDITION, AND THE YOKES, DASH, RUDDER PEDALS, SWITCHES AND CIRCUIT BREAKERS ARE INTACT, BUT AS YOU CAN SEE, MANY OF THE INSTRUMENTS AND AVIONICS HAVE BEEN REMOVED AND ARE NOT INCLUDED.STILL INSTALLED ARE:AIRSPEED, MANIFOLD PRESSURE, TACH, VSI, SUCTION, FUEL AND DIGITAL OIL TEMP/PRESSURE INSTRUMENTS.KING KR-86 ADF SYSTEM.THIS SUPER LOW AIRFRAME IS GENERALLY STRAIGHT (THE SMALL DENT AND HULL CRACK NOTWITHSTANDING), THE SPAR CARRY-THRU’S ARE GOOD, THE DOOR/WINDOWS SHUT WELL, ALL THE GEAR IS GOOD AND 1 WING IS UNDAMAGED, THE OTHER REPAIRABLE.WHAT A FUN PROJECT !SOLD WITH LOGS SINCE NEW, FAA BILL OF SALE, FAA AIRWORTHINESS CERTIFICATE, FLIGHT MANUAL, 337’S, WEIGHT AND BALANCE, AD COMPLIANCE, ETC., ETC.
