Whittman Tailwind Project on Wheels - Excellent Craftsmanship. Built for speed and efficiency. AIRFRAME : Whittman W-8 Fuselage is Tig welded but not yet covered. Fuselage is on it"s wheels - wheel pants included. Wings are W-10 wings and complete and covered one wing needs repaired. Wing struts from Aircraft spruce also included (very expensive!). Tail components (Vertical stab, rudder, horizontal stab, and elevator) are all completed but not yet covered. Professionally welded 22 gallon fuel tank installed also. Aircraft is built for stick controls. Instrument panel installed with a couple of instruments installed. Door frames are done and ready to hang on fuselage. Whittman Tailwind Project w/ 0 SMOH Lycoming O-290-G ENGINE: Newly overhauled Lycoming 0-290-G. (All new bearings, new camshaft, new piston rings, valve guides, etc.) Oil separator installed, Custom Oil Cooler installed, as well as Alternator. Remotely located dual oil filters are mounted on firewall. FUEL INJECTION: An electronic fuel injection conversion was started (manual included) which includes throttle body, (2) 100 lb dual fuel pumps (see picture), a fuel rail, fuel injectors, fuel lines, etc. Engine can be converted back to carburetor quite easily by installing stock oil sump and carburetor if desired. ELECTRONIC IGNITION : Electronic ignition system installed. Threaded brass inserts in the spark plug holes allow automotive spark plugs to be used for better spark and electronically controlled ignition. There are 4 ignition coils mounted on the firewall- one for each cylinder. Magnets and pickups are installed on the flywheel which trigger the coils and fire the spark plugs. There are cover plates over the mag holes. If desired, the engine could easily be converted to a traditional ignition system and run with aircraft spark plugs and magnetos by unscrewing the brass inserts from the spark plug holes, installing aircraft spark plugs, and installing magnetos and ignition wires. INCLUDED: Full Plan Set serial #131 are registered with the FAA and are included. Seats are covered and included. Cowling included. All Sitka spruce materials needed to finish fuselage stringers are included. OTHER: Aircraft was inspected by experienced Whitman Tailwind builder and he gave his overwhelming approval of the build and quality.
