This auction is for the Gyrocopter project as seen in the photos. I purchased this aircraft from the widow of the original owner / builder. At that time it was basically set up as a glider and did not have an engine mounted. It looked like it may have had an engine mounted at one time due to the holes in the framing where the mount would attach. She did not have any info on this other than it was one of her husbands toys that she really didn"t pay much attention to. Since then I have collected 2 McCulloch drone engines , the engine mount assembly , fuel tank and some sheet metal which are all included in this auction. I was planning on converting this back to a self powered gyro rather than a glider. I started by going through the airframe and trying to clean it up a little - I was in the middle of replacing the sheet metal on the vertical fin and rudder but never finished. Most of the big pieces are here but this definitely needs quite a bit of labor to finish. I have too many other projects and distractions right now so I have decided to let this one go.Main blades : both have Bensen ID plates with serial numbers from the early 1980"s. They are metal blades. They are dirty and have some dings - one of them has a good size dent on the trailing edge. Since these are constructed with small sheet metal riveted panels I was planning on replacing the panels that had any imperfections. The leading edges / spars on both these blades look ok.Airframe: the tubing and construction looks good - I do not see any damage - looks well made. Most of the hardware holding airframe together has some corrosion on the heads of the bolts and nuts. The bolts have been removed and are not frozen in place. I was planning on replacing some of them due to their condition.Tail feathers: the horizontal stabilizer is in ok shape. The rudder and vertical stabilizer currently do not have skins installed. They had some hanger rash to the skin - the underlying structure is undamaged. Included is a new roll of .032 aluminum- should be enough for both pieces. It originally had .025 sheet but I wanted to make it just a little tougher.Engines: included are two Mcculloch drone 72 HP engines. One of them is in better condition than the other. They would need conversion to be used on the gyro. I was planning on taking apart and inspecting these engines but never got around to it.Propeller: the prop on the drone engine is incorrect for a gyro. To finish this project a propeller would need to be found - the correct prop for this gyro is not included in this auction. The drone prop is included(hang it up as a decoration).Rotor head and flight controls: The hub bar has a Benson id tag on it. The rotor head looks to be in pretty good shape- moves free, bearing seems ok. The two long pitch rods probably need the rod end bearings replaced- bolts were frozen in those.Engine mount: the tubular engine mount is a new old stock factory Benson / mcculloch upper and lower mount. New rubber isolation mounts also included
Included is a set of Bensen B8 plans. This aircraft does not completely fit the design of a Bensen B8. I suspect it actually might be a Ken Brock gyro.
No shipping on this - it is currently in Shelton Connecticut and needs to be picked up there. If you need time to arrange pickup I will work with you on that and do what I can to help.
