“This plane originally had an 80 hp Subaru engine with 300 hours on the air frame. I replaced everything from the firewall forward with a new Viking 110 hp engine with a 3 blade IVO prop with an optional electric adjust. This plane needs a canopy and seats but other than that it is ready to fly. To view my video on You Tube type in "Experimental Zenith 601 by Thomas Shaw". If you register this plane as an "Amateur built Experimental" you can do your own annuals and maintenance. It will cost less than $10/hr. to keep this plane in the air.”

This Zenith 601HD is the model that does not need a wing modification. The wing design is so strong is will sustain a plus or minus 9g wing loading. This plane flew for several years (about 300 hours on the air frame) with an 80 hp. Subaru engine. I replaced everything from the firewall forward with a new Viking Honda 110 hp. Engine and an IVO 3-blade adjustable prop. I added 2- thirteen gallon wing tanks which will give it a range of almost 9 hours flight time. The engine starts and runs perfectly and all the instruments work as well. All that’s left to complete this plane is the canopy and seats and it’s ready to fly. Zenith makes a hinge-forward canopy that you can adapt to this model if you don’t want to go with the gull-wing design that I started. I’m selling my plane Asis due to the eye problems I have developed which will keep me on the ground. I will entertain the thought of a trade for equal value. Current date: 2016-07-21
