Bushby Aircraft MUSTANG II Experimental Aircraft Project. Up for auction are plans and drawing plus.
Item specifics
Condition: | Used |
Up for auction are plans and drawing plus materials and parts that include most of the materials to make a Bushby Mustang II airframe. Most of the aluminum and steel materials that are needed are included. Many of the parts have already been cut out, either finish cut or rough cut. Some parts have already been formed. Nothing is assembled. Only what you see in the pictures are included. Unfortunately, aluminum sheets are not very photogenic. Please ask if you have questions. There is no reserved price and the opening bid is a fraction of the material cost.
If you would like to build an aircraft for a minimum investment, THIS PROJECT MAY BE FOR YOU. If you would just like to try your hand at building without a major investment, THIS PROJECT MAY BE FOR YOU. If you just want to learn how to work on aluminum aircraft structures, THIS PROJECT MAY BE FOR YOU.
This sale is for pick up only. I will not crate or ship it. You must make your own arrangements. If you are the winning bid, please pay 50% immediately and the rest at pick up.
PLEASE READ ALL OF THE DETAILS IN THIS POSTING. DO NOT BID UNLESS YOU UNDERSTAND THE PROJECT AND CAN COMPLETE THE PURCHASE.
MUSTANG II DESCRIPTION AND SPECIFICATIONS:
The Mustang II is a proven 2 person all metal experimental, amateur built aircraft designed by Robert Bushby in the 1970"s. Many were built and many are still flying after years of good service. It was never a kit airplane, only a plans built design. Here are the specifications based upon a Lycoming O-320 engine from the plans manual:
Top speed: 194 MPH, Cruise Speed: 180 MPH, Stall Speed: 57 MPH, Rate of climb: 1600 ft/min,
Take off distance: 700 ft, Cruising range: 475 miles.
Wing span: 24 ft 4 inches, Length: 19 ft 6 inches, Empty weight: 920 lbs, Gross weight: 1450 lbs, Fuel: 25 gal, Baggage: 80 lbs.
WHAT IS INCLUDED:
Construction manual and blue print drawings. These are from the 1970"s and have not been updated. They assume that the builder has experience or advisors. You will probably want to join a builders and owners group on the internet.
Aluminum materials. Most parts have already been cut out and many parts have been formed. Almost all of the parts are marked with part numbers which relate to the drawings. I have not done a detailed inventory, but it looks like almost everything you will need is included. Large sheets of aluminum are skins for the wings and fuselage. There are pieces of aluminum angle and tubing. ALSO INCLUDED ARE TWO SPECIAL ALUMINUM EXTRUSIONS FOR MAKING THE SPARS.
Steel parts. There are several pieces of steel tubing, probably for the nose gear and for torque tubes. STEEL GEAR LEGS ARE INCLUDED.
IMPORTANT DETAILS:
1. This project is being "sold as is where is" without any guarantee. I only promise to give as accurate description of the project and to answer any questions honestly. The winning bidder must pick it up or make his own arrangements for shipping and crating.
2. I inherited this project and have not worked on it or done anything except store it. I have no personal experience with it.
3. This project has been in storage for at least 30 years and has some deterioration. All of the steel parts have surface rust on them. Most of the aluminum parts are in good condition, but some items have water spots and light surface corrosion. It is my profession opinion as an A&P mechanic that all of the parts are usable, but some will require clean up and corrosion treatment. Some parts that appear dark colored in the photos have been primed.
