Make: nakajima Model Year: 1941
This listing is for a Japanese WW2 fighter, the Nakajima Ki-43, known as the "Oscar" to allied pilots in the south west pacific. it consists of a fuselage that includes the cockpit floor and canopy rails, there is still the wing flap jack and trim unit on the floor, it is missing the forward cockpit section, fwf and wings, the fuselage has the tail fin and horizontal stabilizer along with the remains of the rudder and elevator.
Introduced into the Japanese army air force in October 1941 just two months before the attack on Pearl Harbor these aircraft fought with the Japanese from the start of the conflict right up until the last day, with some being used in Kamikaze attacks against the US and allied naval forces approaching Japan.
These aircraft fought for Japan everywhere from China to Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima, they were the main backbone of the Japanese army as the A6M "Zero" was for the Imperial Japanese navy, these aircraft commonly tangled with P-39 Airacoras, P-40 warhawks and Grumman F4F Wildcats in the early days on the war, with later engine upgrades these aircraft went on to fight the more potent F4U corsair, F6F hellcat and P-51D mustang, although outpaced in the latter part of the war these aircraft maintained their superior maneuverability to the end.
This particular aircraft fought over New Britain and northern Papua New Guinea in the failed Japanese attempt to invade Australia and the aircraft was ultimately downed in New Guinea by the US army air force.
Due to its rarity with only 5 aircraft of this type in existence and 4 of those being replicas this would make a great museum piece or could even form the basis of a restoration project for anyone with other KI-43 parts.
