Item specifics
Condition: | Used | Model Year: | 1979 |
Make: | Hillman Hornet |
It is disassembled and NOT airworthy at this time and is being sold as a project.
Only 2 where Built N44JA the first prototype (1978 FAA records show it was destroyed ) and N8063D (1979) This is the improved version that was the main demo ship for the Hillman helicopter company that was built before designer Doug Hillman was killed by a drunk driver.
This helicopter was an Oshkosh airshow award winner and still has a sticker on the console from the event.
This helicopter is a true part of kit built and helicopter History. It took me 6 years to track down the Hillman estate to get this craft legally in my name.Sadly life events have changed and I no longer have the means to restore it. The Hornet evolved from the Helicom commuter, and used the same transmission and drives.
I have with the project the complete drive system from a Commuter 2B that will bolt right in. that include transmission ( disassembled for inspection with new bearings) 2 tail rotor gear boxes, 2 tail rotor shafts, main rotor head, swashplate. 2 sets of main blades one set is the Hornets original blades, and the second set is the commuter 2B blades. Airworthiness of Hornet blades to be determined buy the builder. Commuter blades last flown in 2012.
This Project does not have an engine. The engine it takes is a Standard lycoming 0-320 that are pretty easily found and converted to run vertically.
I have most the conversion parts and a complete set of Helicom Commuter plans that show how to set everything up and adjust it all. This sale will come with a Legal F.A.A. aircraft bill of sale. So if you chose to restore it to flying condition it will be legal to register in your name.
Or it just makes a heck of a conversation piece for that Collector that collects Rare Items.
Since this is the only one in the world, It dose not get any more rare than this.
Helicopter spec are in the drawing. Search Hillman hornet and you can see video of the prototype flying and this very aircraft on display at the end of the video.
In 1978 Air progress wrote an extended flight report on the prototype hornet and I have that issue and will include it with the sale. Good luck bidding this is a once in a life time deal. Helicopter is located in Hawthrone Florida out side of Gainesville in storage.
