“This airplane was removed from a Velocity airplane with about 70 hours on it”
This Subaru 3.3L engine was rebuilt for aviation application by Crossflow of Canada. Crossflow was founded in 1996 by JJ and Jorge Alonzo who were modifying BMW engines for auto racing in the early 1970s. All Crossflow Subaru conversions required reduction unit and this engine is equipped with a Crossflow PSRU (cost new $4945). The engine is designated CF6-33THO, is turbo-charged, producing 320 HP @ 6050 RPM. Weight of the engine is 460 pounds. The PSRU employs some unique features specifically designed for the Subaru engine. They are;
* All internal drive components are CNC machined from 43040 certified Aerospace billet* Gears are nitrided using the controlled Nitreg process resulting in the formation of a hardened surface that reduces fatigue and wear together with improving resistance to seizure* Internal bearings are Aerospace quality* Gears are made to AGMA 10* Micro lash adjustment on housing fro proper gear tolerances* Internal gear design allows for high contact tooth ratio with torque rating of 780 ft/lb* Viton Oil seals to withstand temperatures up to 400 deg. F* Anticorrosion nickel-plated prop flange drilled to SAE 1 & 2 bolt patterns* Gear lubricated by full synthetic transmission fluid* Custom built flywheel with built-in Sachs torsion damper* Built-in oil re-circulator* Oil temperature probe and gauge incorporated* Facility to add oil cooler if required* Can be used in pusher or tractor configuration
This engine was run less than 50 hours on a Velocity aircraft and is in excellent condition and was replaced with a Lycoming IO-540. Included:* Cross flow Muffler* Radiator* Alternator* Starter* Engine mount for Velocity
History: This engine was installed on a New Velocity Kit plane. The builder was unable to control the temperatures in the pusher configuration. He then sold the airplane. The following owner decide to replace it with a Lycoming engine and all the work was completed at the Velocity factory. The new owner donated this engine to our local EAA chapter and we are selling it. We will accept all reasonable offers. This money will go to our new meeting facility. Currently we are working on obtaining the log book but do not have them at this time. 817-279-3080
