Aircraft is being relisted due to non paying buyer. Previous Buyer lives in Calif. and did not get an estimate of shipping cost before buying the aircraft. He could not afford to pay the shipping cost so I cancelled the transaction and refunded his deposit. Please do not buy the plane unless you contact me first and indicate to me that you plan to pick it up yourself or you have a confirmed shipper. Thanks for your help.
May 10th, polishing and interior cleaning continues. We have owned three C-140"s and this aircraft by far has the best sheet metal. Both of our others had light hail damage, this one has no hail damage and exceptional sheet metal. There are very few Cessna 140 aircraft left like this one, with sheet metal good enough to polish out.
May 8th, 2019, we started polishing the exterior aluminum today. See photos of partial work on fuselage. We will do two full passes, the 2nd pass will be the polish for the mirror finish. We will continue to work on and restore the aircraft until our 152 comes back from engine overhaul. However as continued interior cleaning, exterior polishing and sheet metal repairs are completed the price will continue to go up. Right now the plane is priced as cheap as it will get.
1946 Cessna 140 Project. Complete air frame with nice cowlings, including a new Univair nose bowl ($765), C-85 engine mount and baffles. Needs sheet metal work. Buy it now price is less than the cost of the wing recover. Buyer must take the aircraft apart and haul it away, cannot be flown.
Aircraft Data: N72208, serial number 9381, built 7-30-1946. Total time 4,250 hours. Last annual 9-07-2014. Last flown March 2019, four hour ferry flight to NW Florida with ferry permit. Current registration, Data Plate and airworthiness certificate.
Repairs needed : old 3" crack in aft gearbox bulkhead, needs doubler, crack in external skin above left wing strut, has old illegal pop rivet repair that needs to be removed and correct repair made. Cracked skin aft fuselage below right stabilizer. Bottom rib in vertical fin is cracked in the center lightning hole. Pilots left window glass is cracked. These are the items we noted in our inspection but other issues may exist, aircraft is being sold as is where is with no warranty. This is a 73 year old plane that needs restoration. Please do not bid unless you are able to handle the sheet metal repairs. Also please plan to inspect the aircraft before bidding.
Project strong points and features : Complete air frame, has Cleveland wheels and brakes, good steerable tail wheel, new tires and tubes, aircraft is corrosion free with no hail damage on fuselage, cowlings,or tail surfaces. Very light hail on flaps and ailerons. Wings were recovered in 2014 with Polyfiber Process ($7,500), finish is Aerothane we have STC and 337 for recover. This project has a working instrument panel, with good engine instruments, no electrical work is needed to complete the aircraft. You will not have to paint this aircraft, fuselage is bare aluminum and we have cleaned the entire aircraft inside and out, it is ready to polish. Wings and tail surfaces are already painted.
Avionics: Working KT76A transponder, no encoder, two place PS Engineering intercom with PTT, a KY97A tray is installed and wired in to the intercom system but radio has been removed. There is no ELT.
Lights : The wings have navigation lights installed but no landing light, has belly strobe.
You will never find another C-140 project this complete with newly recovered wings and no corrosion at this low price. The right person with the skills needed to make the repairs will end up with a very good airplane with minimal investment.
