NICE GLOSSY PAINT IN AN ORIGINAL TYPE SCHEME, ALL-OVER WHITE WITH AZTEC GOLD UPPER AND BLACK STRIPES INTERIOR IS VERY NICE, IN A MODERN MEDIUM GREY CLOTH THIS AIRPLANE SUFFERED DAMAGE AT THE STELLA MARIS AIRPORT, LONG ISLAND BAHAMAS !! BEFORE I DESCRIBE THE DAMAGE TO THE AIRPLANE, LET ME DESCRIBE LONG ISLAND, BAHAMAS A LITTLE, AS YOU WILL NEED TO GO THERE TO RETRIEVE OR FERRY THIS AIRPLANE. 80 MILES LONG, WITH ONE MAIN NORTH-SOUTH ROAD LESS THAN 2 INHABITANTS PER SQUARE MILE !!!! #4 BEACH IN THE WORLD (MORE ON THAT LATER) WORLD"S LARGEST BLUE HOLE (663 FT DEEP) THAT YOU CAN SWIM IN (I DID) COMMERCIAL AND PRIVATE PLANE ACCESS, CUSTOMS ON THE FIELD THIS AIRPLANE SUFFERED DAMAGE WHEN THE GEAR ACCIDENTALLY STARTED TO RETRACT ON LANDING ROLL-OUT. THE REASON FOR THE RETRACTION IS NOT KNOWN, AS IT IS DIFFICULT FOR THE PILOT TO ACCURATELY RECALL HIS ACTIONS AT THAT MOMENT, BUT IT DOES HAVE THE MARK OF AN INADVERTENT GEAR UP SELECTION ON THE SWITCH. THE RIGHT MAIN STARTED TO FOLD FIRST, WHICH CAUSED THE AIRCRAFT TO MAKE A TURN TO THE RIGHT, OFF OF THE RUNWAY, ONTO THE SAND/SHELL OFF THE SIDE OF THE RUNWAY. ALL 3 GEAR FOLDED UP/IN, BUT THE DAMAGE IS NOT AS SERIOUS TO THE BELLY AS YOU WOULD FIND WITH A GEAR UP, THE BELLY IS BARELY SCRAPED. THERE IS DAMAGE TO THE BELLY FROM THE STEP PUSHING UP INTO THE FLOOR, AND THERE ARE SOME BRACKETS BENT WHERE THE GEAR ACTUATOR IS IN THE FLOOR, FROM THE STRESS OF THE GEAR FORCING IT"S WAY TO RETRACTION OF COURSE THE 2 BLADE PROPELLOR SUSTAINED DAMAGE, EVEN THOUGH THE ENGINE WAS AT IDLE DURING ROLL-OUT. THE RECOVERY CREW DID A GOOD JOB NOT HURTING THE AIRCRAFT FURTHER DURING RECOVERY OFF THE AIRPORT. A CURIOUS THING IS THAT THEY DID NOT EXTEND THE GEAR, THEY LEFT IT UP, IN CASE THE NTSB WANTED TO EXAMINE IT (THEY DIDN"T) SO IT IS STILL SITTING ON TWO LARGE TIRES. THE ONLY OTHER DAMAGE TO THE AIRFRAME IS TO THE LEFT WING OUTBOARD, WHERE THE LEADING EDGE IS DENTED. THE WING IMPACTED A SHRUB BRUSH OFF THE SIDE OF THE RUNWAY WHEN IT SWIVELED TO THE RIGHT. THIS PLANE HAS MANY UPGRADES, INCLUDING: SLICK MAGS OIL FILTER ADAPTER AIR-OIL SEPARATOR REDESIGNED DASH WITH MODERN SIX-PACK INSTRUMENT LAYOUT AND NICE CENTER STACK NU-LIGHT INSTRUMENT LIGHT RINGS FOR BRIGHT WHITE LITE AT NIGHT. FIBERGLASS ONE PIECE REMOVABLE GLARESHIELD FRONT SEAT SHOULDER HARNESSES METCO STYLE WINGTIPS WING STROBES SOME LOPRESTI SPEED MODS WELL MAINTAINED AND CLEAN IN, UNDER, AND OUT THIS AIRPLANE WOULD REQUIRE A PROP AND TO HAVE THE GEAR STIFF LEGGED IN ORDER TO FERRY IT OUT. THERE DOES NOT SEEM TO BE ANY DAMAGE TO THE 3 GEAR LEGS THE CRANE THAT PICKED IT UP IS AVAILABLE NEARBY, AND THE COST TO HIRE IT CHEAP. THE ON ISLAND CUSTOMS IS VERY REASONABLE, AND THE AIRPORT PEOPLE ARE ACCOMMODATING AND THE ISLAND !!!!! THERE IS A NICE RESORT 1 MILE FROM THE AIRPORT (VERY CONVENIENT), OR 10 MILES AWAY IS THE CAPE SANTA MARIA RESORT, LOCATED ON THE #4 RATED MOST BEAUTIFUL BEACH IN THE WORLD !! COLUMBUS NAMED THIS AREA HIMSELF, AFTER ONE OF HIS SHIPS, IN 1492 WHEN HE LANDED HERE !! BEAUTIFUL TURQUOISE WATER, MILES OF PURE WHITE SAND, ROOM TO WALK, AND WARM WATER FOR SWIMMING OR KAYAKING. WE STAYED HERE AND LOVED IT !! RENTAL CARS ARE AVAILABLE AT THE AIRPORT OR THE RESORTS, AND THERE IS GOOD CAB SERVICE. BOTH RESORTS OFFER DISCOUNTS TO PILOTS, AND THE OFF-SEASON PRICES THIS TIME OF YEAR ARE AMAZINGLY LOW (I PAID MORE IN TAMPA THAN HERE !) RECOVERING THIS AIRPLANE WILL BE A NICE WORKING VACATION FOR YOU, AS IT WAS FOR ME. CHEAP FEEDER COMMERCIAL FLIGHTS ARE AVAILABLE OUT OF NASSAU ON SOUTHERN AIR IF DESIRE. I BELIEVE THIS AIRPLANE WILL FERRY...
