THIS IS A GOOD LITTLE M20C MOONEY
THE ENGINE HAS BEEN UPGRADED TO THE LATER MODEL, WIDE DECK VERSION OF THE 0-360 AID, 180 H.P. LYCOMING ENGINE
ENGINE TIME IS ONLY 611 SINCE MAJOR OVERHAUL IN 2004
ALL NEW CYLINDERS AT OVERHAUL IN 2004
2 NEW SLICK MAGS AND HARNESS AT OVERHAUL IN 2004
LIGHTWEIGHT STARTER AT OVERHAUL
OVERALL WELL MAINTAINED, LOGS LOOK GOOD
THE NEW OWNER OF THIS AIRPLANE HAS RECENTLY (IN THE LAST YEAR) SPENT $21,000 ON MAINTENANCE AND UPGRADES ON THIS AIRCRAFT !! (WE HAVE THE RECEIPTS )
NEW O&N FUEL BLADDERS REPLACE THE LEAKY WET WINGS !!!
JUST DONE LATE 2014 !!
SUPER DESIRABLE, BUT MOST PEOPLE CANT DO IT BECAUSE IT IS SO EXPENSIVE !!
INCLUDES NEW LOCKING FUEL CAPS AND FILLER NECKS
ENGINE 6 GUAGE CLUSTER WAS REPLACED WITH AN OVERHAULED CLUSTER
2 BLADE CONSTANT SPEED PROP WAS OVERHAULED 13 HOURS AGO !!!!!!!!!!!!!
MAGNETOS WERE BOTH SENT IN FOR THIER RECOMMENDED 500 HOUR INSPECTION (THAT MOST OWNERS NEVER DO !! ) IN 2014
**********************AND THEN COMES THE MAY 2015 ANNUAL.**************************
THE FRESHLY OVERHAULED PROP HAD A SMALL LEAK ON ONE BLADE SEAL, SO IT IS REMOVED AND SENT OFF FOR A FREE SEAL REPLACEMENT UNDER WARRANTY, WHILE THE MECHANIC ON THE FIELD CONTINUES THE ANNUAL.
THE SPINNER IS CRACKED, SO IT IS SENT OUT FOR YELLOW TAG REPAIR.
WHEN THE PROP COMES BACK, THE MECHANIC HAS RESEARCHED THE AD"S AND TYPE CERTIFICATES, AND FINDS A PROBLEM WITH THE PROP !!
THE MODEL OF THE PROP, WHICH HAS BEEN INSTALLED ON AND FLYING ON THIS AIRPLANE SINCE 1971, IS NOT IN THE TYPE CERTIFICATE DATA SHEETS (IN OTHER WORDS, IT IS NOT AUTOMATICALLY APPROVED FOR USE ON THIS MODEL AIRPLANE ) !!!
THE OWNER HAS HAD ENOUGH !!HE JUST SPENT $4,600 OVERHAULING THIS PROP, AND $300 REPAIRING THE SPINNER, AND CAN"T STOMACH THE IDEA OF REPLACING THE PROP WITH A NEW ONE AT THE TUNE 0F $8,900 !!
SO HE DECIDES TO SELL THE AIRPLANE TO ME.
NOW IT GETS WIERD
THE REPAIR SHOP KEEPS RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM WITH THE PROP, AND FINDS THAT AN APPROVAL WAS GIVEN BY THE FAA IN 1971 FOR THIS PROP !!
THEY STILL THINK THERE IS A POSSIBLE ISSUE, SO THEY HIRE AN FAA DESIGNATED ENGINEERING REPRESENTATIVE TO CONFIRM THE PROP IS LEGAL, (WHICH HE DETERMINES IT IS) AND THEY MAKE THE REQUIRED LOGBOOK AND WEIGHT AND BALANCE CHANGES
PROP PROBLEM IS NOW SOLVED, BUT HE HAS ALREADY AGREED TO A PRICE WITH ME. HE IS TORN ON WHAT TO DO.
NOW ANOTHER SHOE DROPS
THE MUFFLER AND TAILPIPE FAIL INSPECTION !!
THAT"S IT. HE SAID "NO MORE !!"
HE SOLD ME THE AIRPLANE.
SO NOW, I HAVE A GOOD LITTLE M20C FOR SALE, THAT NEEDS A MUFFLER AND TAILPIPE TO FERRY, AND AN ANNUAL INSPECTION (THE SHOP WON"T SIGN OFF WHAT THEY HAVE ALREADY DONE, EXCEPT THE PROP OK)
THE AIRCRAFT WAS STRIPPED AND PAINTED IN 1989, IN A LIGHT TAN WITH BROWN STRIPES IN A NEWER SCHEME
THE PAINT IS "DEAD", AND WILL NEED A GOOD BUFFING TO BRING THE LUSTER BACKTHERE IS A SMALL DING FROM HANGER RASH ON THE PILOTS SIDE OUTBOARD ELEVATOR TRAILING EDGE, BUT IT HAS BEEN STRAIGHTENED IN THE PAST AND HAS BEEN FLYING AND ANNUALLED LIKE THAT FOR YEARS.OTHERWISE THE AIRPLANE IS STRAIGHT, AND THERE IS NO APPARENT HAIL DAMAGE
THE TAN INTERIOR WAS JUST REDONE IN 2007, AND LOOKS FANTASTIC !! REALLY NICE TAN WITH SOFT CLOTH INSERTS !!
THE RADIOS ARE ANTIQUATED BUT FUNCTIONAL
INSTALLED ARE A WORKING MARK 12B NAV-COM, AND A -PROBABLY NOT WORKING --- ADF SYSTEM
A SECOND NAV-COM TRAY AND INDICATOR, AUDIO PANEL TRAY AND CONNECTORS, AND TRANSPONDER TRAY AND ENCODER ARE INSTALLED, AND STILL WIRED, BUT THE ACTUAL RADIO UNITS ARE NOT INCLUDED. INSTALL THOSE TYPES AGAIN, (AVAILABLE FROM US OR OTHERS) OR USE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO UPGRADE TO WHAT YOU REALLY WANT !!
THIS AIRCRAFT ALSO HAS A FACTORY MOONEY AUTOPILOT INSTALLED !!!
THE FORMER OWNER SAYS THE ON-OFF SWITCH DOESNT WORK (ALWAYS ON, DISCONNECT WITH THE CIRCUIT BREAKER) BUT THE UNIT ITSELF DOES WORK !!
FIRST AIRFRAME LOG HAS BEEN MISSING FOR YEARS (2ND LOG HAS REVIEW OF EARLY DETAILS), BUT LOGS 2, 3, 4 ARE INCLUDED, AS WELL AS ENGINE LOGS SINCE MAJOR AND PROP LOGS SINCE NEW, ALONG WITH 337"S AND PLENTY OF OTHER PAPERWORK.
