THE 1965 M20C IS THE FIRST YEAR WITH SQUARE SIDE WINDOWS, WHICH GIVES IT THE SAME PROFILE AS ALL OTHER MOONEYS SINCE!! EQUIPPED WITH THE BULLET-PROOF LYCOMING 0-360, 180 ENGINE, LIKE ALL OF THE "C" MODELS.
MOONEYS HAVE ALWAYS BEEN KNOWN TO BE FAST FOR THE AMOUNT OF HORSEPOWER USED, DUE MORE TO THIER SMALL CROSS-SECTION, RATHER THAN OVERALL AERODYNAMIC SMOOTHNESS.
FOR A DOZEN YEARS AFTER THE PRODUCTION OF THIS M20C, THE AERODYNAMICS REMAINED BASICALLY THE SAME, BASICALLY HORRIBLE!

BUT THANKS TO THE GOOD FOLKS AT LAKE AERO STYLING AND THIER “ LASAR 201” SPEED MODS, WITH ENOUGH TIME, MONEY AND DETERMINATION, YOU CAN COME CLOSE!!
THE MOST DISTINCTIVE 201 MODIFICATION, AND THE ONE THAT DOES THE MOST GOOD IN TERMS OF EXTRA CRUISE SPEED, CABIN NOISE AND OVERALL APPEARANCE IS OBVIOUSLY THE ‘SPEED SLOPE’ ONE PIECE WINDSHIELD!
THE M20 ‘C’, ‘E’ AND ‘F’ ALL USED A VERY FLAT WINDSHIELD, THE EARLY AIRPLANES WITH AN UNSIGHTLY STRIP DOWN THE CENTER. IN AN ATTEMPT TO LOOK MORE “MODERN’, THE LATER MODELS ELIMINATED THE STRIP, BUT THE VERTICAL, UNSUPPORTED ONE PIECE OF PLEXIGLASS CAUGHT SO MUCH AIR THAT IT ADDED VIBRATION TO THE EXISTING NOISE FROM BLOCKING THE AIR’S SMOOTH PASSAGE, AND WAS ACTUALLY WORSE THAN THE 2 PIECE!
ROY’S SPEED SLOPE IS QUIETER, MUCH FASTER, AND LOOKS FASTER EVEN SITTING ON THE RAMP.
AS YOU CAN SEE, THIS AIRPLANE HAS LASAR’S 201 WINDSHIELD KIT INSTALLED.

INSIDE, THE INTERIOR IS BLACK, OF COURSE AND SPORTS A LASAR MOD I HAVE NEVER SEEN BEFORE WHICH EXTENDS THE REAR BAGGAGE COMPARTMENT BACK 2 FEET, SO FISHING RODS AND THE LIKE NOW FIT EASILY!
NEW CARPET WAS JUST INSTALLED. REGULAR UPKEEP INCLUDES NEW TIRES, MAGS, ETC.

BECAUSE THE RECEIPT INSIDE THE AIRPLANE SAYS THE OWNER JUST SPENT $1,600 ON JAN 15TH, 2019 TO GET IT WORKING RIGHT!!
UNFORTUNATELY, ON JAN 23RD OF THIS YEAR, WHILE CHECKING OUT THE RADIOS/AUTOPILOT, HE HAD A LITTLE TROUBLE ON LANDING, AND CLIPPED THE TIPS OF HIS ALMOST NEW HARTZELL 2 BLADE SCIMITAR PROPELLOR WITH ONLY 170 HOURS SINCE NEW IN 2016! (THE NEW STYLE POLISHED SPINNER SET IS FINE).
WHEN I SAY THE TIPS, I MEAN THE LAST INCH OR SO ONLY. IT LOOKS LIKE A Q-TIP, WITH NO DEFORMATION OR BENDING EXCEPT TO THE TIPS.
AND NO AIRFRAME DAMAGE!!!!!!
THIS AIRPLANE DID NOT GEAR UP!!
THERE IS NO DAMAGE TO THE COWLINGS, FIREWALL OR NOSE GEAR!
NO DAMAGE TO THE WINGS, AILERONS, FLAPS OR FLAP HANGERS!
NO DAMAGE TO THE TAILCONE OR TAIL FEATHERS!
ALL OF THE GLASS IS GOOD, THE DOORS SHUT WELL, THE MAIN GEAR AND DOORS ARE UNDAMAGED (DON’T FORGET THE COOL MAIN GEARDOOR ART, ON BOTH SIDES!)
THE BELLY OF A MOONEY IS THE FIRST THING TO ARRIVE AT THE SCENE OF A GEAR-UP ACCIDENT, AND REPLACING ALL OF THOSE SKINS AND STRINGERS CAN BE QUITE A CHORE.
SO IT’S LUCKY THIS WASN’T A GEAR UP!!
I KNOW WHAT YOU ARE THINKING, ANY PROP DAMAGE REQUIRES AN ENGINE INSPECTION, RIGHT?
AGREED, EXCEPT YOU PROBABLY SHOULDN’T DO A SIMPLE INSPECTION ON THIS ENGINE AND KEEP FLYING IT.
IT HAS 2,329 HOURS ON IT SINCE MAJOR!! (2,000 HOURS IS THE RECOMMENDED TBO, REMEMBER)
NOW IT WAS A GOOD MAJOR, BY ZEPYR ENGINES, TO NEW LIMITS, WHICH IS WHY IT HAS GONE THIS FAR, BUT REALLY, NOW IS THE TIME.
OF COURSE, IF YOU DID A TEARDOWN PROP STRIKE INSPECTION, AND REPLACED THE CAM AND LIFTERS WHILE TOU WERE IN THERE, YOU WOULD BE DOING THE EQUIVALENT OF A BOTTOM END OVERHAUL, AND SINCE THE MAGS ARE NEWER, AND THE TOP END IS OK, I SUPPOSE YOU COULD GET BY THAT CHEAP, BUT YOU CAN’T RESET THE TIME SINCE MAJOR THAT WAY, SO I WOULD RECOMMEND AGAINST IT.
SO MORE REASONABLY, YOU CAN MAJOR THIS ENGINE, OR INSTALL A USED REPLACEMENT (SORRY, WE DON’T HAVE A LOW TIME ONE IN STOCK TODAY, BUT THEY ARE AROUND, AND WE GET THEM REGULARLY)OR SPRING FOR A FACTORY ENGINE, AND MAKE THIS AIRPLANE ABOVE AVERAGE IN THAT WAY AS WELL!
THERE IS ONE MORE LITTLE THING THE FORMER OWNER DID TO UPGRADE AND MODERNIZE THIS SUPER MOONEY.
DID YOU NOTICE THAT THE ATTITUDE INDICATOR AND D.G. HOLES WERE OPEN?
4 MONTHS AGO, ON 12/28 2018, HE HAD A NEW GARMIN G5 CERTIFIED ATTITUDE INDICATOR WITH GPS INSTALLED, AND A NEW G5 CERTIFIED DG/HSI SYSTEM INSTALLED, WITH THE GMU 11 AND GAD29B INSTALLED AND WIRED TO CONTROL THE AUTOPILOT!!
REMEMBER, THERE ARE ONLY EMPTY HOLES THERE NOW!
I HAVE REMOVED THESE NEW GARMIN PIECES, AND THEY ARE NOT INCLUDED WITH THIS SALE.
IF YOU ARE A PUREST, OR OLD-FASHIONED, OR WANT A NICE AIRPLANE FOR AS CHEAP AS POSSIBLE, YOU ARE IN LUCK, AS THE VACUMN PUMP AND SYSTEM WERE NOT REMOVED FROM THIS AIRPLANE, SO YOU CAN INSTALL PLAIN STEAM GAUGES, JUST LIKE YOU ARE USED TOO!! AND IF YOU HAVE BEEN DRINKING THE KOOL-AID AND THINKING THAT A G5 IS AN EASY OR CHEAP INSTALLATION, THE OTHER INVOICE I FOUND IN THE AIRPLANE WILL SOBER YOU. IT SHOWS THE FORMER OWNER JUST SPENT $7,200 FOR INSTALLATION ALONE, IN ADDITION TO THE COST OF THE G5 UNITS AND OTHER HARDWARE!! ($13,491 TOTAL!!) ONLY 4 MONTH"S AGO, AND 1 HOUR USE!
