1966 LAKE LA-4 AMPHIBIAN AIRFRAME, 1,745 TT, LEFT SIDE DAMAGE, IN ALASKA, CHEAP!THE LAKE AMPHIBIAN IS THE MOST REASONABLE CHOICE FOR SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO ENJOY AN AIRPLANE THEY CAN LAND ON A RUNWAY OR ON THE WATER!OF COURSE YOU CAN ADD HEAVY AMPHIBIOUS FLOATS TO MANY BACK-COUNTRY AIRPLANES, BUT THEN YOU HAVE A POOR PERFORMER DUE TO THE WEIGHT AND EXCESS DRAG AND AN AIRPLANE THAT SITS VERY TALL AND IS THEREFORE UNSTABLE ON HARD SURFACE LANDINGS OR ON THE WATER.THE LAKE SERIES LANDS ON ITS BELLY IN THE WATER AND HAS LARGE SPONSONS FAR OUTBOARD TO KEEP THE AIRPLANE UPRIGHT AND STABLE, DURING WATER LANDING, TAKEOFF AND TAXI.THE HEAVY DUTY, FULL SIZED LANDING GEAR IS SPREAD WIDE, MAKING IT ALSO VERY STABLE ON LAND!THIS AIRCRAFT HAS A VERY LOW TOTAL TIME SINCE NEW OF 1,744 HOURS ON THE AIRFRAME.THE RECENT OWNER, A PROFESSIONAL PILOT, LANDED LONG ON HIS HOME GRASS RUNWAY AND COULDN’T STOP BEFORE CONTACTING A NEW ELECTRICAL POWER BOX THAT THE UTILITY CONVENIENTLY HAD RECENTLY PLACED NEAR THE EXTENDED RUNWAY CENTERLINE!AS YOU CAN SEE FROM THE INCLUDED PHOTOS, THERE IS DAMAGE TO THE LEFT SIDE OF THE FUSELAGE FORWARD OF THE WING AND TO THE LEFT WING ITSELF.THE NOSEGEAR WAS NOT DAMAGED, NOR WERE THE LEFT MAIN GEAR OR THE LEFT SPONSON.THE DOORS OPERATE FREELY AND THE WINDSHIELD IS NOT BROKEN, SO THE CABIN WASN’T “TWEAKED”, BUT IT DOES HAVE SIDE DAMAGE.THE LEFT FLAP, AILERON AND WINGTIP ARE UNDAMAGED.THE BALANCE OF THE FUSELAGE, THE RIGHT WING, FLAP, AILERON AND GEAR ARE UNDAMAGED.THE COMPLETE TAIL ASSEMBLY IS UNDAMAGED.THIS MODEL HAD A 180 H.P. LYCOMING 0-360 INSTALLED (REMOVED LAST WEEK, NOT INCLUDED OR AVAILABLE) BUT THE LATER LA-4’S HAD A 200 H.P.
