1981 PIPER PA-44-180 SEMINOLE TWIN, 1068 SMOH L&R, FORGOT THE GEAR ON LANDING, GREAT TWIN TRAINER PROJECT, CHEAP !!
THE SEMINOLE IS BY MOST ACCOUNTS THE BEST OVERALL TWIN TRAINER ON THE MARKET!!
WITH THE PROVEN, RUGGED AND ROOMY FUSELAGE/GEAR IT SHARES WITH THE CHEROKEE ARROW, DUAL BULLETPROOF 180 H.P. LYCOMING ENGINES, INCLUDING ONE THAT IS COUNTER-ROTATING (NO CRITICAL ENGINE), AND MODERN SYSTEMS COMPARED TO THE OLD APACHES AND TRAVEL AIRS, IF MONEY IS AN OBJECT, IT IS THE SEMINOLE !!
THIS AIRPLANE WAS THE OWNERS FAVORITE, IN A LARGE FLEET.
WHEN THE PILOT FORGOT TO LOWER THE GEAR, AND SKIDDED ON THE BELLY, SHE WAS CONCERNED. WHEN THEY LIFTED IT ON THE RUNWAY AND HIT THE DOWN SWITCH, AND THE GEAR POWERED OUT WITHOUT A PROBLEM, HER HEART SANK.
WITH A FULL BOOK OF STUDENTS WITH TIME SCHEDULED, SHE WENT OUT AND BOUGHT ANOTHER SEMINOLE 2 DAYS LATER, BECAUSE SHE COULDN"T WAIT FOR THE REPAIRS TO BE MADE.
DAMAGE WAS SUSTAINED TO THE FOLLOWING:
BOTH TWO BLADE PROPS WERE BENT ON BOTH TIPS. THE SPINNERS LOOK OK.
THE ENGINES WILL BOTH REQUIRE INSPECTION, OF COURSE, BUT THEY WERE AT IDLE, AND ARE ONLY MID-TIME, SO AN OVERHAUL WOULD NOT BE INDICATED OR REQUIRED.
THE FLAPS WERE DOWN, OF COURSE, SO THE INBOARD TRAILING EDGE OF BOTH ARE SCRAPED, AND THE INBOARD HANGERS ARE SCRAPED AT THE BOTTOM
THE STEP WAS SCRAPING, AND HOLDING WEIGHT, BUT IT EVENTUALLY PULLED THE TWO NUTS OUT THROUGH THE BOTTOM SKIN. THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT IT DOES NOT APPEAR TO HAVE WRINKLED THE SKIN IN THE ATTACHMENT AREA, SO A NEW SKIN WILL NOT BE REQUIRED HERE !!
THE RUNNERS, OR "HAT SECTIONS" ON THE BOTTOM ARE JUST LIKE A CHEROKEE"S, AND JUST LIKE AN ARROW DURING A GEAR UP, THE RUNNERS TAKE ALL OF THE DAMAGE, SO THE BOTTOM SKINS HERE ARE NOT TOUCHED AT ALL !!!!
THE NOSE AND MAIN GEAR ARE COMPLETELY UNDAMAGED, OF COURSE, BUT SINCE THEY WERE UP, THE NOSE AND MAIN GEAR DOORS ARE ALSO COMPLETELY UNDAMAGED !!
THERE IS A VERY SMALL AMOUNT OF SCRAPING ON THE FIBERGLASS NOSECONE, BUT IT IS FILLABLE, AND WILL NOT REQUIRE REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT OF THE NOSECONE.
THERE IS A LIGHT SCRAPE ON THE TRAILING EDGE OF THE RIGHT COWL FLAP, BUT AGAIN, NO REPLACEMENT REQUIRED.
AND THAT IS ALL OF THE DAMAGE TO THE AIRPLANE !!!!!!!!!!!
NO WING DAMAGE
NO AILERON OR GEAR DAMAGE (AILERONS HAVE A NON-MATCHING PAINT STRIPE, BUT ARE IN GOOD SHAPE)
OUTSIDE OF THE RUNNERS AND THE STEP NUTS, THERE IS NO DAMAGE TO THE FUSELAGE.
THE DOOR SHUTS AND SEALS EASILY, SO THERE IS NO TWISTING DAMAGE
THE TAIL AND TAIL FEATHERS ARE ALL GOOD.
OVERALL THE PAINT IS OK, NEITHER SCREAMING FOR PAINT TOMORROW, OR PAINTED YESTERDAY, BUT SERVICEABLE FOR IT"S INTENDED MISSION (TRAINING TOMORROW"S TWIN PILOTS)
THE SAME WITH THE INTERIOR, WHICH IS NOT RIPPED UP.
BOTH FRONT SEATS HAVE THE DESIRABLE VERTICALLY ADJUST FEATURE.
THE RADIOS HAVE BEEN REMOVED FROM THIER TRAYS, AND ARE NOT INCLUDED, BUT THE TRAYS ARE INCLUDED AND WIRED FOR A PS ENGINEERING AUDIO PANEL, A KING KX-155 (INDICATOR IS INSTALLED AND INCLUDED), A KING DIGITAL DME, AND GARMIN TRANSPONDER. THESE ITEMS ARE READILY AVAILABLE, FROM US OR OTHERS, NOW OR AT ANY TIME IN THE FUTURE, AND THEY WOULD BE SIMPLE SLIDE IN REPLACEMENTS, NO RE-WIRING REQUIRED.
THE DASH IS COMPLETE, WITH ALL FLIGHT AND ENGINE INSTRUMENTATION, EXCEPT THE VACUMN D.G., WHICH IS GONE. (UNBOLTED, THE VACUMN HOSES ARE STILL THERE).
I KNOW THAT EVERYONE IS GOING TO ASK ABOUT FERRYING. WE DON"T DO THAT, BUT THIS SURE LOOKS LIKE PROPS ARE THE ONLY OBVIOUS THING THIS AIRPLANE WOULD NEED TO FLY. FERRY PERMIT IS UP TO YOU.
SOLD WITH AIRFRAME, PROP AND ENGINE LOGS, AS WELL AS FAA BILL OF SALE. THE APPROVED FLIGHT MANUAL AND CURRENT WEIGHT AND BALANCE ARE IN THE PLANE.
