1958 AERO COMMANDER 500 AIRFRAME COMPLETE, 5,099 TT, ONLY LIGHT NOSE DAMAGE.THE AERO COMMANDER TWINS ARE THE LARGEST OF THE “LIGHT” TWINS!THEIR LARGER FUSELAGE CAN HOLD MORE, THE LOW FUSELAGE WITH THE WINGS OVERHEAD MAKE ENTRANCE AND EXIT MORE LIKE A CABIN CLASS AIRPLANE, AND THEY ARE STABLE AND DOCILE , EVEN ON SHORT FIELDS, WHERE THE LOW STALL SPEED ALLOWS THEM TO PERFORM BETTER THAN YOU WOULD THINK.BASED ON THE BIGGER 560E COMMANDER, THE 500 LIKE THIS ONE USED A MODERN 0-540 LYCOMING 250 H.P ENGINE INSTEAD OF THE ANTIQUATED, HEAVY AND COMPLICATED GEARED G0-480 ENGINES.THIS AIRPLANE WAS PRIVATELY OWNED AND OPERATED. THE FIRST LOGBOOK STARTS IN 1963 WITH 1,359 HOURS. LOGS FROM THAT POINT ON TO THE PRESENT ARE COMPLETE AND CONSECUTIVE.ORIGINALLY IN TUCSON, THEN CALIFORNIA, WHERE IT WAS MAINTAINED BY COMMANDER SERVICES IN HAYWARD), THEN FLORIDA IN 1997.VERY NICE REFURBISH DONE IN 2012, INCLUDING: NEW PAINT !! ALSO PILOT’S SIDE AIRSPEED, VSI, DUAL TACH, DUAL MANIFOLD PRESSURE, (2) 3-IN-1 GUAGES.CO-PILOT’S SIDE HAS AIRSPEED, ALTIMETER, AND KING VOR/LOC INDICATOR.
AS YOU CAN SEE, THE FRONT OF THE AIRPLANE TANGLED WITH A CHAIN LINK FENCE AND 5 POLES AT THE BOCA RATON AIRPORT IN FLORIDA!I’M NOT GOING TO POINT FINGERS. THE PILOT CLAIMED THE BRAKES SUDDENLY STOPPED WORKING WHILE TAXIING.THE RESULT IS A DENTED NOSE AND 4 DENTS ON THE WING LEADING EDGE, SHOWN IN SEVERAL PHOTOS.THE LEFT WING CONTINUED OVER 1 POLE, AND PUT A LONG CREASE IN THAT UNDERSIDE SKIN AND TORE A HOLE AT THE END. THE SPARS WERE NOT OBVIOUSLY DAMAGED, JUST SKIN!ON THE NOSE, THE BOLT ON NOSE CAP IS DAMAGED, THE SKINS JUST BEHIND THAT ARE DAMAGED AND THERE IS A SMALL AMOUNT OF DAMAGE TO THE RIGHT SIDEWALL WHERE THE NOSE TR UNION ATTACHES. THE NOSEGEAR STILL SITS STRAIGHT.THE TWO SMALL FORWARD NOSE GEAR DOORS ARE DENTED, BUT THE 2 AFT NOSE DOORS ARE FINE.THERE IS NO OTHER DAMAGE TO THIS ENTIRE AIRFRAME!!!!!!!!!!!!THE PROPS WERE SCRAPED AND SLIGHTLY BENT, SO THEY AND THE ENGINES WERE REMOVED FOR INSPECTION BUT THE COWLINGS ARE UNDAMAGED AND BACK IN PLACE, THE NACELLES ARE UNDAMAGED, THE MAIN GEAR AND DOORS ARE UNDAMAGED, ETC.NO DAMAGE NOTICE TO THE HEAVY DUTY DISC BRAKES AND WHEELSNO DAMAGE TO THE WINGS OTHER THAN THE 4 DENTS AND THE UNDERSIDE SCRAPE/HOLE. THESE AREAS ARE ALL EASY SHEET METAL REPAIRS.FLAPS, AILERONS, TIPS AND NAV LIGHTS ARE ALL GOOD.NO DAMAGE TO THE CABIN AFT OF THE FIRST FOOT OR SO OF THE NOSE!ALL GLASS IS GOOD.CABIN DOOR IS GOOD AND FITS FINE, THERE IS NO TWEAKING TO THE FUSELAGE!TAIL AND TAIL FEATHERS ARE ALL GOOD!THIS IS A VERY GOOD LOOKING AIRPLANE, IN AND OUT EXCEPT FOR THE ISOLATED DAMAGE.THE NOSE COULD BE REPAIRED SHORT, AS SHOWN, OR EASILY UPGRADED TO THE MORE POINTY “SHRIKE” NOSE, AVAILABLE USED, WHICH ACTUALLY JUST GRAFTS ON OVER THE EXISTING STUBBY NOSE, DAMAGED OR NOT, AND MAKES THE AIRPLANE LOOK NEWER AND FLY FASTER!THIS AIRPLANE IS SOLD WITH THE AIRFRAME LOGS TO THE PRESENT, INCLUDING THE LAST ANNUAL, WHICH JUST EXPIRED 111/1/2019!ALL AD’S WERE COMPLIED WITH AT THAT ANNUAL AND THE SHOP THAT DID THE WORK HAS DONE THE LAST 3 ANNUALS AND KNOWS THE AIRPLANE!OTHER PAPERWORK INCLUDES:AD COMPLIENCE SHEETS, INSPECTION FORMS, EQUIPMENT LIST, LOTS OF RECEIPTS, APPROVED FLIGHT MANUAL, ETC.PLUS FAA BILL OF SALEPLUS FAA AIRWORTHINESS CERTIFICATEAND THE KEYS!THIS AIRPLANE IS ABSOLUTELY REPAIRABLE, AND YOU COULD INSTALL FIREWALL FORWARDS, DO THE SMALL SHEET METAL REPAIRS AND HAVE A GREAT AIRPLANE!AN AERO COMMANDER WAS ACTUALLY THE FIRST AIR FORCE ONE, FOR PRESIDENT EISENHOWER!!OR USE THIS TO UPDATE OR UPGRADE YOUR TIRED 500.
