THE 1960 310D MODEL HAS MANY IMPROVEMENTS OVER THE ORIGINAL 310"S, THE MOST RECOGNIZABLE BEING THE SWEPT VERTICAL FIN !!
THE D MODEL ALSO ADDED 17 GALLONS OF EXTRA FUEL PER SIDE, FOR MUCH MORE RANGE THAN EARLIER MODELS.
INSIDE, THE BENCH 2 PLACE REAR SEAT OF THE EARLIER 310"S WAS REPLACED WITH BUCKET SEATS FOR 3, MAKING THIS AIRPLANE A DESIRABLE 5 SEATER, BUT STILL LEAVING A LARGE BAGGAGE AREA.
THE DASH HAS A MODERN CENTER STACK FOR AVIONICS, AND THE INSTRUMENT LAYOUT PUTS THE IMPORTANT INSTRUMENTS IN A GOOD POSITION.
200 MPH CRUISE SPEEDS MAKE THIS HEAVY HAULER DESIRABLE FOR FAST, SAFE TRAVEL !!
UNFORTUNATELY, IT"S ALL ABOUT TIMING !!
TALK ABOUT BEING IN THE WRONG PLACE AT THE WRONG TIME!!
WHILE PARKED OUTSIDE AT THE NORTH BEND, OREGON AIRPORT (KOTH), THE NEARBY AIRPORT OWNED HANGER CAUGHT FIRE AT 2 AM, AND BEFORE IT COULD BE PUT OUT THIS AIRCRAFT (AND 2 OTHERS), SUFFERED DISTRESS AS THE LEFT SIDE WINDOWS AND WINDSHIELD SUSTAINED HEAT DAMAGE AND SAGGING.
IN ADDITION, THE LENS ON THE LEFT TIP TANK MOUNTED NAV COVER IS OPAQUED, THE FIBERGLASS REAR CAP ON THE LEFT TIP HAS SOME BUBBLING, AND THERE IS AN AREA ON THE LEFT FUSELAGE SIDE WHERE THE PAINT IS BUBBLED UP. OTHERWISE, THE METAL TIP TANK, AND THE METAL SURFACES SUSTAINED NO DAMAGE
OVERALL, THE LEFT SIDE FUSELAGE PAINT IS NOT BUBBLED, AND EXCEPT FOR THE LISTED AREAS, THERE ARE NO OVERALL APPEARANCE ISSUES.
THERE APPEARS TO BE ABSOLUTELY NO DAMAGE TO ANY OF THE HORIZONTAL SURFACES, EVEN ON THE LEFT SIDE, SO THE WINGS, FLAPS AND AILERONS, HORIZONTAL AND ELEVATORS ARE ALL UNDAMAGED.
AS YOU CAN SEE, THE TIRES ARE LOW FROM SITTING, BUT THE RUBBER WAS NOT DAMAGED, SO THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO THE LANDING GEAR, AND THE GEAR DOORS ARE ALL FINE AS WELL.
THERE WAS NO OTHER DAMAGE TO THIS AIRPLANE !!
NO STRUCTURAL DAMAGE !!
NO DAMAGE TO EITHER OF THE IO-470D 260 H.P. ENGINES!!
EACH ENGINE HAS ONLY 262 HOURS SINCE MAJOR OVERHAUL !!!!
THE LEFT PROP HAS 103 SNEW
THE RIGHT PROP HAS 103 SNEW AND "0" SINCE RESEAL
THE AIRFRAME TOTAL TIME IS 5400
HOWEVER, THE FIRE OCCURRED ALMOST 4 YEARS AGO, SO THIS AIRPLANE"S LAST ANNUAL WAS 9/2010 !!
IT HAS BEEN A 4 YEAR LONG LEGAL STRUGGLE FOR THE FORMER OWNER OF THIS AIRPLANE (AND THE 2 OTHERS CLOSER TO THE FLAMES, AND THEREFORE MORE DAMAGED)
AS A RESULT, THE AIRPLANE HAS BEEN TIED DOWN OUTSIDE FOR THIS TIME
AS YOU CAN SEE IN THE PHOTOS, THIS AIRPLANE LOOKS GOOD OVERALL, WITH THE RIGHT SIDE PAINT SHARP, AND THE LEFT ONLY SLIGHTLY LESS SO, BUT THERE IS ACCUMULATED DIRT AND BUILD UP, AS MIGHT BE EXPECTED.NIETHER ENGINE HAS BEEN RUN FOR OVER 4 YEARS, SO ALL EXPOSED HARDWARE IS RUSTY, BUT THE ENGINE TURNS OVER FREELYTHE PROPS HAVE CORROSION STARTING ON THE BACKS OF THE BLADES, (BUT NOT THE FRONT FOR SOME REASON) SO THEY WILL REQUIRE PAINTING/ATTENTION
INSIDE, THE 5 BUCKET SEAT GREY LEATHER INTERIOR LOOKS OK, BUT THE CARPET IS POOR AND WET, AND SHOULD BE REPLACED., AS THERE WAS NO AIRFLOW FOR THE LAST 5 YEARS.
THE SEATS THEMSELVES APPEAR OK, AND SHOULD BE FINE WITH NORMAL CLEANUP.
AS YOU CAN SEE, THE AVIONICS UNITS HAVE BEEN REMOVED COMPLETELY, BUT MOST OF THE FLIGHT INSTRUMENTS, AND ALL OF THE AIRFRAME AND ENGINE INSTRUMENTATION IS INTACT AND LOOKS GOOD
AFTER THESE PHOTOS WERE TAKEN, SOME OF THE REAR SEAT FLOORBOARDS, WHICH SIMPLY SCREW IN, WERE DAMAGED WHEN THE AUTOPILOT SERVOS WERE REMOVED, SO THIS AIRPLANE IS SOLD WITHOUT AN AUTOPILOT, SORRY. THE PANELS ARE STRAIGHTFORWARD, NON STRUCTURAL SHEET ALUMINUM ONLY, NOT COMPLICATED.
NO OTHER PARTS ARE MISSING, THE ENGINES ARE INTACT, AND THE AIRFRAME HAS NOT BEEN STRIPPED OR MOLESTED BEFORE THE RECENT RADIO AND AUTOPILOT REMOVAL.
SOLD WITH LOGBOOKS FOR ALL, INCLUDING ENGINES, PROPS AND AIRFRAME UP TO THE LAST ANNUAL.
THE FAA AIRWORTHINESS CERTIFICATE AND AN FAA BILL OF SALE.
IN FEBRUARY 2015, THE 5 YEAR REGISTRATION WAS ALLOWED TO EXPIRE, SO THE NEW OWNER WILL BE REQUIRED TO REREGISTER IT. THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM WITH A NON CRASH DAMAGED AIRPLANE. AFTER A FRESH ANNUAL, (AND A FEW NEW WINDOWS), THE RE-REGISTRATION WILL BE STRAIGHTFORWARD.
